MicroServer... had not heard about that one before.
I think that it will do nicely as a SBS server
I was thinking about powerconsumption, but didn't find numbers... but below the specs there are 4 pages of customer comments with some pro/con:
http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/us/en...7-4248009.html
among them:
I bought this server; less than 22w in idle, quiet and much faster than the Intel counterpart (atom).Main: Receiver (Audiocom) -> Beresford Caiman+ (Gatorized) -> Carver A-500x -> B&W 704
Office: Receiver -> Luxman L-210 -> Stax SR84 Pro
-> Beresford Caiman (Gatorized) -> Superlux HD668B
Server: A8-5500, 4 GB, SSD+ 2*1 TB, Win8 w. SBS 7.8 (SQLite w. High Mem)

Looks like it will do the job well as a standalone server and for £140 after the cashback it looks like a bargain. Really need to sort something out I sit here while I copy my entire music and video collection to an external drive thanks to a virus...
I want a standalone server to give me added security to prevent this happening again, but it must be run the squeezebox server quickly and be low consumption when idle.Source: Squeezebox 3, Thorens TD160 Super Turntable, SME 3009 arm with a Linn K9 cart.

I've just ordered this now and it'll be arriving tomorrow, at £240 with £100 cashback I think its a bit of a bargain.
It will also be hosting my photos and videos, so now, what do I install on it? Windows Home Sever, Freenas, Vortexbox?Source: Squeezebox 3, Thorens TD160 Super Turntable, SME 3009 arm with a Linn K9 cart.

If anyones interested, the hp works a treat with the squeezebox server on vortexbox. At £140 with the discount, this could well be the cheap solution we've been waiting for. Its very responsive.

Hi there, just a quick question or two. Does this wake on lan and have you measured power consumption

Hi, with Vortexbox I can turn the server on and off via the squeezebox remote, the server has wake on lan functionality.
I've just wiped the drive and re-installed vortexbox with a power consumption monitor attached. During installation (running the dvd drive and installing) the server was using 35w. Rebooted and with the Squeezebox server running and it had dropped down to 30w. I'm yet to put it into sleep mode as I'm in the process of copying some test cd's across, but will update soonLast edited by chn68b; 2011-03-20 at 15:11.

right, in sleep mode the server was consuming just 3w.
so powerconsumption:
on installation of OS with dvd drive running = 35w
running squeezebox server = 30w
sleep = 3wSource: Squeezebox 3, Thorens TD160 Super Turntable, SME 3009 arm with a Linn K9 cart.

could you post a pic please? also, how snappy is it, is the mobo/cpu combination quick enough to do a decent job serving and scanning a library of around 140k tracks?
Linux finally gets a great audio tagger: puddletag - now packaged in most Linux distributions.

I've just copied across 4600 music files, mostly flac and that took just over 5 minutes to scan. Navigating around Squeezecentre almost as fast as you can push the buttons. Its a dual core processor with 1Gb of memory. Of course, having the OS as Vortexbox built on Fedora, its using far fewer resources anyway, which speeds things up a great deal too.
