When you see the "blank" screen under now playing, what happens when you touch the screen of the TOUCH. Each time you touch the center of the screen, it should cycle through the various now playing screen options (that you selected in your screen saver options with ticks).

Don't get too excited about the possibility of improving SQ with changing the TOUCH powersupply. It is highly unlikely in my opinion. Read this thread and pay close attention to phil leigh and iphone's comments. I very much trust their expertise and experience on this topic.

Hi again Gary,
I didn't try the above but will tomorrow. At the moment I'm beginning to think I'm fated with my Touch - this one is a free replacement because my original one was replaced as faulty by Logitech and this one now has started acting awkward. Tonight it quickly began to change tracks after playing just a few opening bars without any prompting by me. Shutting down and Restoring Factory Settings then gave me problems logging on to the network again but doing a wireless connection first and then doing the ethernet (wired) connection afterwards got me a wired connection but no way would it then connect to 'mysqueezebox.com' - yes the internet connection was 'solid' and yes, SQBox Server was running on the PC. It took ages and repeated attempts to connect to my USB drive and recognise that my FLAC files were where they should be. Having then accessed the FLAC files it would only play the opening few bars of each track, as before.
I'm beginning to wonder if I've got another 'Friday afternoon' Touch.
I do have a little good news: doing a rescan now comes up with an updated total for files and albums but then posts a new error message: "Music scan terminated unexpectedly - Directory scan."
Do you think I have another 'dud'?
Regarding the uprated linear PSU, I understand that it is not universally accepted that it makes much difference but a couple of guys on an audio forum in the UK, whose opinion I have previously found to be reliable, have posted that they have perceived a significant improvement, particularly when a Ripple Eater is incorporated into the linear PSU, which is what I intend to do.
Thanks for all your help,
Dave.

Dave,
You are way overcomplicating this.
You need to get your Touch functioning reliably as a simple setup on you existing network. Forget using the Touch's USB or updating power cables for the time being.
Get your Touch playing reliably from your SBS server on your computer. Play a few albums and try streaming some (any) internet radio.
Once you can do this without studders, stops, drop outs, re buffering, etc.. then move on to further customizations.Last edited by toby10; 2011-02-18 at 06:20.

Agree! First, I doubt you have a dud Touch. I think you're not getting it setup correctly, so lets focus on this. It's sorta like you're worried about using your car like a race car, but for now we just want to get the engine started!
And why are you plugging in your USB drive to the TOUCH. As Toby says, let's get it working from a baseline. Have your USB drive plugged into your COMPUTER. Have SbS running on your Computer, and let the TOUCH connect to the music streaming from your computer (that is the touch is connected to your LAN and the computer is connected to your LAN).
The messages you are getting when you scan tend to be problems with a virus scanner. Have you found a way to exclude *.myi, *.myd files? Have you tried the scan with your computer's virus scanner turned off temporarily? Search this forum for "norton" or "virus" and you'll see lots of discussions about this issue. I tried to google to get some help on norton, but couldn't see how to tell it to exclude file extensions. Maybe a different type of anti-virus program would be a better idea. But bottom line, your file scanning issue is either your virus scanner or some sort of firewall issue.
Try this, open the "control panel" for your SbS running on your computer (right click on the SB icon in your windows machine tray and select control panel). Click on diagnostics tab. What does it report for everything (OK vs failed, etc.)

Minor Update.
Hi Toby10 and Garym,
I've been busy most of the day and just picked up on your latest posts at midnight here. More tomorrow but meanwhile, after a simultaneous/sequential PC shutdown and restart, modem router shutdown and restart and reloading SBX Server on the PC (almost) everything is now working OK EXCEPT I now can't tune in to any internet radio stations (which I could do earlier). I appears that everything is going well, I get the bar at the top of the screen saying "Connecting..." but it just hangs and never connects, no matter which station I try to tune in to.
And so to bed !!!
Thanks for your help so far - I DO appreciate it.
Dave.

so did your music all scan OK? Were you able to exclude the extentions I mentioned or did you temporarily turn off the virus scanner.
Double check that your mysqueezebox.com credentials are entered properly in SbS > Settings > Mysqueezebox.com tab.

There does appear to be an error line in there but the comment about "Not enough space at ......." puzzles me because I have over 1 TB space available on my two hard drives within this PC. In total the scan results show over 10,000 tracks which I think must be about right.
Hope this makes more sense to you than it does to me.
Thanks again,
Dave.
