Any advice on what way to go would be much appreciated!

    Thanks
Please try the SqueezePlug_Image method first, because that does not alter the boot environment. Try to boot with that image. You can install a simple samba server from the setup/misc option in my setup script. It's fully automated but a very simple configuration without any security or right-management. But I think it's o.k. for a local network!

Thanks very much, I shall try with the image first. Those server settings sound fine for my home network. One thing I've never been sure of is whether it's ok for me to have the disk formatted as ntfs? I'll be needig read and write access to it. Fingers crossed the plug arrives by the weekend!

NTFS should also be o.k., I've installed the Linux drivers for that. The setup script should recognize this and mount the NTFS-Drive automatically.

Excellant. Looking forward to getting this all setup now. You've been a massive help so far, and i wouldn't have gone for this without the support available. So thanks again.

Will keep you updated on how i get on.

Please be careful to be not to enthusiastic! Officially I don't support the eSata version. But the last days someone told it's running. So good luck and keep me informed!

    Thomas,
Ive used the new 3.5 image and installed 7.5.3 r31792 on the SheevaPlug.

    We'll see what happens next.......

    Neil
I was the one with the Server that would crash every 2 or 3 days.

I did the new install Feb 3, 2011 and so far I've not had a crash.

    I'll report again later....

Another thing to remember is to back up your favourites - I didn't....

    Again, thank you, Thomas.
sorry for the thick question that follows. My sheevaplug esata arrived today. Do I need to download and install that file from newit above, or can I just leave uboot alone? I'll be using the sheeva image to setup squeezeplug.

    Thanks

Don't update u-boot. Try to boot simply with your SD-Card with my image! If that won't work we will see!

Yes, sorry for the confusion; don't update the U boot version. I foolishly did, and had to download it again from the above site.
