mixed genres in one compilation album

    Hi,

I have an issue with my compilations on my squeezebox touch with usb hard drive.

My compilations have mixed genres (classic, rock, ...). If I browse under "My Music" -> "Genres" -> "Classic" my compilations containing at least one track with genre classic appear, but when I select them it shows "empty" instead of tracks.

Only albums where the genre is the same for each track are displayd as expected.

Has anyone experienced that. Am I tagging my files wrong.

PS: my music is ripped with MediaMonkey 3.2.4, all FLACs

Thank you in advance for your help

    Richard

    perhaps related to this setting:

SbS > Setings > My Music Tab

Check your setting for "Filter genres at the album & track level"

    Hi garym,

    thank you for your reply.

Do you mean the Squeezebox Server - setting? I am using the Squeezebox Touch in "standalone"-mode, so my Touch is server and client.

I did not find "advanced" settings like that on my touch. Can't this be done with the SbS of Touch?

    Regards
    Richard

I think you can change this setting, but there is no graphical interface for doing so. You would need to (1) stop the TinySBS running on the Touch, (2) enable Remote Login on the Touch, (3) login to the Touch using ssh or WinSCP, (4) edit the /etc/squeezecenter/prefs/server.prefs file, (5) save the changes and exit the editor, and (6) restart the server.

The specific line in server.prefs appears to be the one that says
    noGenreFilter: 0
    or
    noGenreFilter: 1

The 0 corresponds to "Only show tracks or albums matching the selected genre for an artist"

The 1 corresponds to "Show any tracks & albums for an artist"

    Hi aubuti,

thank you for pointing me in this direction. At the moment I am having some connection issues, every time I open a folder in WinSCP the connection breaks and I have to reconnect. Maybe my router has to be changed.

I was able to change the value of "noGenreFilter" from 0 to 1. I restarted the server and there where more albums under classic but its still showing empty on the last browsing level.

Nevertheless, its good to know about the settings in this file. Are the meanings of these settings explained in the wiki or do I have to find out what they do by myself?

    Kind regards,
    Richard

I don't think they're in the wiki, certainly not anything comprehensive. To make things easier you may want to install SBS on a computer -- temporarily at least -- and play with the settings in the SBS gui and then see which values change in server.prefs.

Thanks for your help. I will try with the SBS on my windows machine and post my experiences IF I am successful ;-).

    Re:

Any news on this issue ?

I'm experiencing a similar issue with the tiny server runnin on the SBT.
If I try to access my music via genres and choose a file of an artist with just one file in this genre (or maybe missing album tag), the listed album is "empty" ("leer" in german UI). I cannot pick this "empty" item and consequently cannot access the song(s) of this artist.

Running the regular SBS on my PC (Linux) for the same files, it lists the "empty" album item as well, but it does list a second group marked as "no album" (or sim ilar - can't remember), which contains the "requested" songs.
On SBS I'm able to access these files.

I've tested both options for the filter settings as described above, but it didn't make a difference.
Is this a known bug for 7.5.3 ? Does 7.6 firmware show similar behaviour ? (It it worth an upgrade ?)
    Any suggestions ?

    Regards,
    Toby

This is a known bug. Please register on the bugzilla site and add your vote to help prioritize fixing it.

There are other bugs related to mixed genre albums:

An album should never appear 'Empty', regardless of which options are set. If the album is listed for a given genre, then SBS should display at least one track from that genre when the album is browsed.
