Glad it worked out for you, even as a self-described newbie. Now the trick is to remember to be ready to do it again after your Radio gets a firmware update. I'm not 100% sure, but I think the fallback alarm is among the files that get overwritten when new firmware is installed.

Will do. By the way, I replace the alarm.mp3 with a 3 meg file. Seems to work fine .

When my SB was brand new, everything went well with the alarms.
Then after the 2nd firmware update it was there as described by the others above.
I had nothing changed in my WLAN enviroment.

Questions:
- what happens if the funky bass mp3 file is deleted or replaced by and empty 300k file (-> no alarm at all ?)
- is there a chance to return to an old firmware (where to get and how to install ?)

I want to get rid of that annyoing bug. Thanks

As noted several times previously, changing or deleting the MP3 file for the fallback will do absolutely nothing to make the Radio play the intended alarm more reliably. Some people talk about the alarm problem (ie, the regular alarm not firing, not the choice of the fallback alarm music) as if it is completely broken, when in fact it works just fine for a large share of users (including me). So the first-best option is to fix whatever it is in your setup that is preventing the selected alarm from firing.

That said, the answers are:

1) if the regular alarm triggers, then you will get the regular alarm. If it doesn't trigger and instead goes to the fallback alarm that has been deleted, there will be no alarm. Sounds extremely risky to me.

2) if you run LMS, install the older version of the LMS software that corresponds to the firmware you want. All old versions of the server software are available at downloads.slimdevices.com. When you install the older LMS software you should be prompted to "upgrade/update" the Radio firmware, when in fact you will be rolling it back to a previous version. If you depend on mysqueezebox.com, then there is no way to rollback the firmware and keep it rolled back.

Mmmmmh, the selected alarm is always (in my case) a web radio station to which a connection has to be established in case of an alarm.
Some of the guys here may be right, that it may has to do with a (short) break in the internet connection during the day.
My provider dose this twice in 24 h but gives me always back the same IP (I don't know what that is good for)
In the alarm sound selection one cannot select a specific radio station, only "actual music channel" or sth. like that is possible.
In my opinion it is a firmware bug that causes a to fast fallback in case the selected web radio channel for alarm sound is not reachable within a very short time.
That should be fixed in a next issue.
In some cases I heared the Funky bass sound first an very short afterwards, the web radio channel started, but it is so piano compared to the Bumm Bumm Funky sound.
But both sounds were there ?!
Hope they get it fixed one day, since I use the SB only as an alarm clock. Maybe I should sell it on ebay to get out of troubles.

Any suggestions for a better functional alarm-clock-web-radio ??????

Sure you can. All you have to do is make that specific radio station a "Favorite" and then it is available to be selected as an alarm sound.

You may have a point about going to the fallback too soon, but I'm not sure. I've only encountered the fallback alarm a few times. Once was when the electricity had gone out during the night, so my cable modem and router were useless (and the UPS they were connected to didn't beep loud enough to wake me several rooms away before the battery went out). The other times were when my server was supposed to come out of suspend mode (it, too, was sleeping overnight) before activating the alarm, but got hung up because of a hardware fault it has. Otherwise it worked fine for the six months I used it as an alarm. For other reasons I've gone back to the $20 Brookstone battery-powered travel alarm that I've used for close to 25 years now.

Ok, no, for that reason I bought the SB to hear a specific radio-station that is not avalible via antenna.

I played around with the SB the last days and I can avoid the bass bug by switching on "my" wake up channel in the night just before going to bed.
The last day the bass bug started in the morning and shortly after I got my usual radio station without touching the SB ??!!

Was the alarm set to the current playlist (perhaps by default)? That could explain that. In any event, make whatever station(s) you want a favorite, and select that as the alarm. Then guarantee you have a good internet connection and you should be fine.

Yes the alarm is set to "current playlist", since the SB gives me no other choice in the menue for web radio stations?!
But my favourite stations are all stored on the memory buttons.

A played around some more. It depends on the station I choose for alarm.
If I select "südtirol1" (a north italian web radio station) which is sometimes a litte slow in starting with sound, I get the bass bug guaranteed.
If I choose a station closer around with a better www-speed connection (faster start up) the bass bug occours much lesser.

In case of "südtirol1" a funny effect takes place. If the Funky bass bug starts and I am really quick in hitting the On/Off button,
the SB switches all sound off imediately and some seconds later the real web radio alarm starts correctly with the slow tuning up ?!

Your favorite stations may be stored on the buttons, but are the stored as Favorites in the menu? If you have any Favorites stored in the menu (not in the buttons), that is also an option for the alarm, in addition to "current playlist." And if you don't have anything stored in Favorites, then of course you won't get a selection of radio stations.

So you get the fallback alarm when your Radio can't connect to the station you've selected? That's not a bug, that's a feature. Would you prefer it didn't give any alarm in that case? Maybe the Radio gives up too soon, that's probably a matter of debate.

Yep, this is it, but it came with one of the last FW updates since I had no problems with that when the SB was new.
So If there is a radio station that respons a little slow you'll get the replacement sound - Funky bass.
