Using the sharing function of the squeezebox touch

    Hello,

I recently hooked up a usb drive to the my touch and every is working fine, but I can't seem to get the sharing function to work. I've turned on sharing and left the username and password as the defaults. On my windows 7 desktop it can see the squeezeboxtouch under my networks, but when I try to connect it won't accept the username and password. It just says unknown username or bad password. Any ideas? Thanks!

The settings you've applied are correct. (Replicates my setup)

Try changing the default username and password.

The touch only works with the workgroup name WORKGROUP. If you have changed the workgroup name on your computer it won't be able to connect via the normal windows networking.

There IS a way to do it, even if the workgroup is different: first get the IP address of the Touch (settings->advanced->diagnostics, scroll down to the IP Adressess field). Then open My Computer and make sure you have an address bar. If not bring one up (view->toolbars->address). Type the following into the address bar:

    \\<IPaddress>

    For me that is:

    \\192.168.1.103

Note those are two back slashes NOT forward slashes.

This should then bring up a box asking for the username and password. The default is root and 1234.

This should then pop up the shared directories.

    I hope that works.

Smile A big THANKYOU to John S

I have been trying to sort out this exact thing tonight and found your answer above spot on! I didn't think about workgroups and don't want to change mine because of other PCs networked, including my works server.

Of course now I have found it, I have mapped it and put a shortcut on my desktop. Easy when you know how!

    Thanks again,
    Dave.

Yes thank you John. I was also able to use this information to connect my computer wirelessly to the HDD I have attached to my Touch. I have just transferred an album from my computer to the HDD wirelessly.

I'm having the same problem. Windows 7. The computer is in workgroup WORKGROUP. Disabled the Norton firewall. Windows can't find \\SQUEEZEBOXTOUCH or \\192.168.1.13.

I can log into the Touch with PuTTY from my PC, so it's definitely on the network.

When you click Enable Sharing, is anything supposed to happen other than the little box filling in?

OK, it sort of works. Windows can't see the Touch at \\squeezeboxtouch\ and I can't map it to a drive, but I can save to the Touch's USB drive using \\<IP address>\<drive name>\<libary directory>.

    If you map that "\\<IP address>\<drive name>\<libary directory>"

or create a shortcut for that .

A shortcut have the benefit of not mounting the drive at boot or when using explorer, in some windows version it can take forever to use explorer if network drives are missing (it searches for them )

Thanks for the shortcut suggestion, I didn't think of that. For some reason Windows 7 will not map to the Touch's USB drive by either network name or IP address.
