Problem connecting LaCie HDD to Touch

I've just bought a Squeezebox Touch and am not able to connect my 320 gb Lacie HDD to the device. Can anyone provide any advice on what to try next?

I have reformatted the drive to NTFS (it was originally formated for a Mac). Now it recognises the drive but after scanning the music library shows as empty.

The compatability list provided by Logitech seems to include this drive as one that should work. I would buy a replacement drive if I was sure that would work but am disinclined to do so right away as that may not work either.

This is frustrating - having the USB connectability was the main reason I bought the Touch. I already have 2 other Squeezeboxes but I have problems with wireless drop out and rebuffering which drive me mad.

    2 questions
    1. Is the drive bus powered or does it have its own power supply?
    2. What format is your music in?

I had the same problem with a seagate goflex 3tb usb drive. your problem could be if your drive goes into sleep mode, make sure you have only 1 primary partition - no logical partitions. I never got mine to work, but am using a hitachi out of the box 1TB drive which came formatted fat 32. seems to be working pretty well. no one could tell me why the seagate doesnt work. I got the hitachi last Sat for $79 at Fry's. I could have got a 2TB Western Digital for $69 but it emphasized energy efficient and I took that to = sleep mode so probably would not work with the touch.

Drive is bus powered. Songs are mostly Apple Lossless with some Flac.

I recommend trying to power te drive by some other means. Bus powered drives can be problematic.

Thanks I bought an external powered WD drive and it has been working.

A new problem - songs sometimes (3 times in one album) cut off prematurely and jump to the start of the next track. I seem to remember someone else asking about this previously in another thread.

I'd be grateful if someone could point to that thread or let me know if they have experienced that problem and resolved it.

In the manual, Logitech recommends to connect a bus powered HDD behind a powered USB hub if problems arise ...

Got my Squeezebox Touch today, and could connect it to the Bus Powered LaCie 640GB Drive. As I had the drive since last week, I already formatted it and loaded it with 250GB of music.

Building the database took about 8h but now, Touch's internal server works like a charm.

Note: I tried to place the Harddisk a bit further away from the Touch and connected it to a 1.8m cable. Touch came up with an error: Wrong Harddisk format! As soon as I plug the disc with the supplied 5cm USB cable, everything is fine ... very weird
