I am perplexed why you are getting an error message when trying to move the cache directory from /var/lib/squeezeboxserver/cache to /DataVolume/cache/squeezeboxserver.
I tried to create it manually in WinSCP but the permissions were not the same -- that is why I used the mv command, which replicated the same r/w permissions (user: squeezeboxserver, group: nobody) as in /var/lib/squeezeboxserver/cache.

Perplexed you may be but I got the error three times. Also regarding your last post, yes "cachedir" appears multiple times but there are only two instances where the directory path accompanies it - the third line to be changed has no mention of "cachedir".
Further errors:
My scan has just thrown "Media scan terminated unexpectedly (Scanning Progress)" on the server settings / information page. Looking at the logs:

Another error. Just tried doing a "look for new and changed media items" scan.
Server log:
Also the scan seems to have hung - nothing is appearing in the scanner log at all and the MBL is quiet, the activity light static.Code:[12-01-14 17:57:20.6553] Slim::Control::Request::execute (1889) Error: While trying to run function coderef [Slim::Control::Commands::rescanCommand]: [Carp::Clan::__ANON__(): DBI Exception: DBD::SQLite::db do failed: disk I/O error [for Statement "DELETE FROM scanned_files WHERE url = 'file:///shares/Private/Shared%20Music' OR url LIKE 'file:///shares/Private/Shared%20Music/%'"] at /usr/share/perl5/Slim/Schema/Storage.pm line 126 ]
(BTW My music is stored in the Private directory in a folder called "Shared Music". When I configured the Logitech Media Server software it could access this folder so rights shouldn't be the issue.)
20 minutes later... Just aborted the scan as it was doing nothing at all according to both logs.Last edited by Nasalhair; 2012-01-14 at 11:17.

I suggest Logitech fixes this problem and doesn't leave it up to their customers!
As stated several times, SBS 7.6.0 works fine, no matter how many files there are or how big or small the free disk size on the partition is, where the cache is stored.
So the question from Michael seems to be irrelevant:
"Do you have enough empty disk space on the partition where the cache and
log files are stored?"

..except that the WD mybook is not an oficially suported device ,so it really is up to some entusiast to make i run on it.
And WD do they provide ?
Readynas support comes from logitech, qnap and linksys build and maintain their package and supports it.
The open source nature of the server makes it possible to port to almost anything and logitech can't stop you , but they are not obliged to help every one. And how could they ? Software that runs everything does not rely exist.
So if not where opennsource it would not at all be possible to try on the WD ?
If you want trouble free LMS run it on a computer nas=pain ( oversimplification I know but.. )
read back in the tread Michaels hint actually helped one guy, and in the past a lot of people have runned in to memory limits, so it is a valid concern.--------------------------------------------------------------------

Why is this irrelevant? There are huge changes between 7.6 and 7.7, which can make the difference: LMS 7.7 is scanning photos and videos on your disk too. This can result in much larger files.

Wester Digital Compatibiloity Question
Hello everyone.
Beginners question here, I currently have a Squeezebox Radio and Squeezebox duet running on my home PC. It runs Media Server 7.7.1
Im going to buy some home video streaming hardware, and something to hopefully double up as a NAS and was looking at a Western Digital TV Live Hub 1TB PAL UK Network Media Centre
Would I be able to get Media Server 7.7.1 running on this and therefore be able to store my music on this and therefore be able to use my Squeezebox devices without having to have my PC on?

LMS 7.7 command line service start/stop
Boy, I'm feeling dumb, but once on LMS, is the command line start/stop command still:
squeezeboxserver start
squeezeboxserver stop
???
Because, when I issued a restart command from the browser, it never came back up.
