Question Load album art on scan ?

    Hi,

I've installed SqueezeCenter from the Debian repository on an fresh Debian install. I put a few albums on it in order to try the product, then I went to the web interface and started a library scan. Everything went fine, but I didn't see album art on the album list ...

Then I browsed "into" an album, and came back to the album list to see that this time album art was showing correctly for that album.

In fact, I need to browse one time into every album so that the art is "loaded" and then shown in the list ...

Is there a way to have SqueezeCenter load all the art immediatly ?

    Thanks ...

If I understand you correctly, something isn't working correctly - artwork should be picked up during a scan.
One limitation: if you've already scanned an album, then later add artwork, a 'find new' scan will not pick up that new art, but a 'clear everything and rescan' scan will. Could this possibly be your issue?

In the 'Information' tab of the web UI, there's a link to the scanner log. You might have a look there if a full scan is not picking up artwork.

Thanks for the advice, but that wasn't the issue since I added albums already properly tagged and didn't change anything on them afterwards ...

In fact, artwork is picked up on first browsing into an album instead of scan ... Seems very strange ...

Do you know where is artwork stored after it is picked up ? I suppose there is some cache somewhere ?

I've seen similar behaviour before, rarely, but I've never quite worked out what causes it. I had a hunch it was related to having duplicate albums in different directories. Sometimes it also seems different UIs (SqueezePlay, the Web UI, different skins) have different behaviour. Normally it seemed to work itself out.

I don't know if there is a cache, but rescanning should normally flush it.

How is your album art stored? The rules are listed here: http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/AlbumArtwork

Basically, use embedded art or use the cover/folder.jpg one-image-per-album-directory, if you haven't already.

Ok thanks, I've read the rules, in fact, I use embedded art (ID3), but the folders are also shared to a Windows Media Center "Music" share, so this one creates one ou two jpg files in it containing the artwork, I'll see the file names to see if it can conflict with SqueezeCenter scans ...

That could be annoying as I'd like to be able to listen to the whole collection in SqueezeCenter AND in Windows Media Center ...

    Anyone has tried that ?

Check that windoze dont make the folder.jpg "hidden" then it wont scan, supose you don't have WMP running while sbs scans ?

What is the file format ? not wav ?

Good point, I'll see that this evening ... WMP was not running as actually my SqueezeCenter "box" is stand-alone, I just copy/past a few albums on it to test, but in the future, it will read the same network share as my WMC, and assuming WMC is activated on my everyday computer, I think it scans continuously (I saw that the time I put a new album on the share, the jpg files are created within seconds ...)

But as I said, actually it isn't connected, so WMC could not interfere ...

Is there a way to force SqueezeCenter to a specific filename for artwork ? To avoid confusion with the files created by WMC ...

The best would be a "SoftSqueeze Addon for WMC", and don't use the standard Music feature of WMC ...

Here's one other thing to consider. I don't know about WMC, but WMP creates Folder.jpg files. On the other hand, SBS running on your Debian box will be looking for folder.jpg, which isn't the same thing because of Debian's case-sensitivity.

Since you say you have the album art embedded in your ID3 tags I would think that SBS would find the art there and this wouldn't be an issue. But as you're having problems it's worth a look.

I also didn't see any response to the question about what's in scanner.log. Are there no errors at all there?

EDIT: I forgot to add that you can specify a particular filename to look for. I forget exactly where it is, but probably under the "My Music" tab under Settings in the SBS web ui.

Okay I'll have a look to all of this and give much tries this evening, that's why I didn't talk about the scanner log because I'm not at home now ...

Sorry I missed the question, file format is mp3 exclusively ...
