Ogg files not playing Squeezebox Server v7.5.1 and Squeezebox

Ogg files are not playing anymore since I upgraded to Squeezebox Server V7.5.1.
I'm using an Squeezebox 2, firmware version 40.

Flac and MP3 playback is fine.

    Anyone any idea's?

    You mean Squeezebox1 I guess?

    Yes you're right: Squeezebox v1

The server names the player 'Squeezebox 2', so I'm always confused. It's the one with the character display, but with the digital output.

I fixed this problem with v7.5.1 by modifying custom-convert.conf, but now I re-installed Linux and installed Squeezebox Server v7.5.2 from scratch, put back the custom-convert.conf, but I have the old problem again.
I remember now that I also modified some settings through the web interface -> Advanced -> File Types. I'll find out what I did and then I'll post it later.

Sorry for not posting the updated custom-convert.conf sooner BTW. I'll attach it now.

    Advanced -> File types

It's working! I've disabled all but PCM stream in the Ogg section in Advanced -> File Types, and restarted the Squeezebox Server.

Is it possible to update the default configuration of the server software?

    Best regards,

    Frank.

Same issue on a Roku Soundbridge

It seems the problem may be the Ogg->Aiff transcoding. When I de-select that and let it do Ogg->Mp3 transcoding (less than ideal) it doesn't get the annoying white noise static.

I really don't like the idea of re-compressing an already compressed file. Supposedly, the Roku is supposed to handle ogg natively, but when I select "native" the playlist just skips to the end. FLAC would probably be ideal for you Squeezebox owners, since you wouldn't have to transport huge amounts of data over wifi like you do with PCM. Unfortunately, my cheapo unsupported Roku doesn't support Flac natively.

Hopefully this transcoding issue gets fixed. Aiff would probably be preferable, but sox just bites it.

Also - I've seen this on 7.5.1 and 7.5.2 on Ubuntu 10.10. I feel like this problem actually showed up when I upgraded Ubuntu. sox wasn't even installed so I'm not sure how it uses the library. I don't believe this problem occurs with Windows 7.

Unhappy Not on Windows 7 either

Update: I tried this on Windows 7 and I get the same static noise when trying to do Aiff encoding with sox (default). I'll be using the PCM workaround for windows as well. Seems to work well with the Roku.

    Thanks, freerink!

    Unhappy Related bug

I found a related bug for flac files.

Hopefully they fix this soon. My wifi can't keep up with the PCM solution and my audio skips a lot - especially if I turn on the microwave

    Workaround stopped working in 7.6.0

Workaround of not doing OGG->AIFF conversion has worked beautifully for me for months with my v1 players, but today I upgraded to 7.6.0, and it stopped working - "cannot play file type".

Has the option of playing PCM (or whatever it was) disappeared?

    I think it's working.....

After installing 7.6.1 and doing various other tweaks, I was a bit frustrated. Nothing was playing on my v1 Squeezeboxes.

Then, on a hunch, I installed LAME on my Linux system.

Now I have my OGG music playing through this odd command line:

    sh -c "/usr/share/squeezeboxserver/Bin/i386-linux/sox" -q -t ogg "-" -t wav - | "/usr/bin/lame" --silent -q 9 -v - -

I'm sure much can be said about that, but at least the music is plaing.
