Hi,
I have had my Squeezebox Classic v3 for a couple years now and used it with SqueezeCenter 7.3 on a Windows Server 2008 system with no troubles. Naturally, I had it configured to start as a service at system startup.
I have a new server now that is running Server 2008 R2 and have downloaded the latest version of SqueezeCenter which is now Squeezebox Server, obviously. It installed fine and seems to work, but it refuses to start at system startup. I enter credentials in Squeezebox Server Control Panel, which then has a bit of a think and seems to go about doing its thing. After it's done I click OK but when I start the control panel again, startup options are set to not start automatically, and Squeezebox Server does not automatically start at startup. If I start it and log out, then the server stops. Squeezebox Server Control Panel does not create a system service. It will run at login OK, but that is not what I want and isn't really acceptable for a server system, so I want it to start at system startup.
The system is a domain controller, so I made a domain user account specifically for the service but it didn't work. I tried entering the username in the control panel with and without the domain, and I also tried giving it my domain admin account and it still didn't create the Squeezebox Server service like it did on my old server.
I also tried doing the above while running the control panel manually as admin, and that did not help.
How can I get Squeezebox Server to install its service? Instructions for setting it up manually is ok (I'm no stranger to creating my own Windows services) as long as it works.

Assuming you did your SBS installation while logged on your server as user "administrator", I'm a little confused about your particulars making choices from the "services" section of Windows Server 2008 R2. Are you saying:
1.) SBS simply doesn't show up on the services list at all?
2.) SBS does show up on the services list, but will not allow itself to be set to start on system startup?
3.) SBS is on the services list and you can tell it to start on system startup, but when you reboot, SBS still doesn't start? (If this is so, does it then do the settings still have the flag to autostart on startup?Last edited by eganders; 2010-12-28 at 13:56.

I did installation while logged in as an administator. The only 'Squeezebox' item that shows up as a service is 'SqueezeboxMySQL'. It is set to auto start and is in running state. There is no 'Squeezebox Server' service. Setting 'Automatically run system start' from the Squeezebox Server control panel does not seem to work either. Not sure if I need to enter a domain username/password there. Seems this should run as system account.

I know this is long after the fact, but posting may help others with this problem.
From: tedfroop on http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=80926
"There has been a fundamental change in how programs install in Win7. You need to use the right click menu and select "Install as Administrator" when installing programs that need access through the firewall.
Yes - even if you are the administrator you need to select "install as administrator" so the installed program had admin rights. If you notice, anything you install without this has a little security shield attached to the icon and will ask for administrator approval before starting."
Since the installer is an exe it is "Run as administrator" but it solves the problem.

After downgrading to 7.5.2 I cannot get my server to autostart.
Not even after completely uninstalling and re-installing (and run as administrator, as mentioned above).
The downgrade seems to have solved some problems regarding 7.5.3, but not autostarting is a bit of a pain..
Anyone has any suggestions, maybe a registry setting or something?
Running Versie: 7.5.2 - r31632
on Windows 7 64bit (although the squeezobox control panel says Windows XP - NL - cp1252)
