Can't play WMA Uncompressed Streaming (KEXP)

    Hi,

Just bought my Squeezebox Touch. Nice unit, but it will not play KEXP Uncompressed, ie mms://media-wm.cac.washington.edu/KEXP-Uncompressed. Or more precisely it will play it, ie I see the seconds ticking by on the player as though it were rendering the bits into sound, but no sound comes out of the speakers. KEXP 128Kbps plays fine, ie mms://media-wm.cac.washington.edu/KEXP-Live. I tried with both the released 7.5.1 SBS and firmware as well as the latest nightly build of the SBS and of the Touch firmware (r9155) but same problem. Any suggestions to get this to work? Or any comments from Logitech as to when this will be fixed in the firmware?

KEXP Uncompressed plays fine is the various software emulators like Softsqueeze or Squeezeslave.

An unsupported combination - Softsqueeze works because an external decoder is being used - without specifying the OS the explanation gets too long to write.

The work around - under WebUI Settings/Advanced/Filetypes disable "Native"
for Windows Media NOT WMA lossless.

Search is your friend - the same issue discussed many time before - most recently

That works, but is it lossy?

Thanks! That works. But is the lossless stream being decoded into a lossy stream with this approach?

No, by default the lossless stream will be transcoded into lossless Flac

    Lossless is lossless...

Excellent, this is great. Thanks very much!

The problem is this stream is actually WAV (!) wrapped in ASF. Which we don't support obviously. Maybe it wouldn't be that hard to support in SqueezePlay though...

BAD Microsoft for spec'ing an inefficient format. GOOD Microsoft for donating lots of money to KEXP, which is an incredible station, which makes them feel like they have to make the stream WMA lossless instead of a more efficient format....

If it was WMA Lossless then it might actually work (on SqueezePlay in 7.6 anyway...). But it's totally uncompressed WAV! Wasting 2x as much bandwidth as they need to be.
