Thanks. I was familiar with this but never followed through as it seems to support only DVD and not blu-ray. Can't determine from any websites that it can handle blu-ray. Can you confirm that it works with blu-ray or are you responding to the DVD ripping in general? Thanks.

Would love to use the Touch as a potentially low noise, low power, USB transport for 24/192.

    The content is slowly coming

I'm not holding my breath... I have a lot of DVD-A's (>100) of which 8 are 192 - and amusingly they are all sourced from early-mid 70's 0.5 inch tape masters.

    SACD rips are 88.2.

No-one I know (including myself) can tell the difference between 192 and 96...
You want to see the signal path BEFORE it gets onto a CD/vinyl...it ain't what you'd call minimal...

    Hi Phil,

SACD rips can be at 176.4 - it just depends what machine you use to perform the PCM conversion. The oppo outputs at 88.2.

384kHz is supposed to be transparent enough for SACD editing.

I always find that the 192 version sounds smoother, effortless, and generally more like good 2" tape.

since when was 2 inch tape ever used for stereo mastering? ;-)

I don't think the VDAC is 24/192 capable in the way you mean. As far as I can tell it upscales to that resolution, but cannot process incoming data at that high resolution.

    Key quote:
"The USB input feeds the ubiquitous Burr-Brown PCM2706 receiver chip, which is limited to 16-bit data and sample rates of up to 48kHz."
    http://www.stereophile.com/content/m...r-measurements

That's why I didn't buy a V-DAC but instead got a DACMagic which also upscales to 24/192 and can accept incoming data up to 24/96 through optical and coaxial, but I think is also limited to 16/48 through USB.

    USB DAC problem

    Hi guys,

After the modification my USB DAC does not work with my touch.
    It has the latest firmware.

When I check aplay -l, I have this answer:

    Code:
    # aplay -l

You want to run the aplay -l with the original asound.conf file. It looks like you have modified the asound.conf with these <II>, I'm sure thats not legal syntax which is why you are having the problems. The best bet is to go back to the original asound.conf (you did back it up, right?) and run the aplay -l
This will list the card number of the USB DAC, put that number in the asound.conf rather than trying to use the name, it can sometimes be difficult to figure out which name to put in there, the number is always unambifuous.
