What language if no English available?

Is there a possibility to re-define failsafe_language for just a plugin?

I'm currently tinkering a plugin which will be of little interest for
anyone outside Switzerland, and as it relies on information I'm only
getting in FR and DE, I did not even want to translate that plugin to
english. But this won't work with the interface set to english (or other
languages) as the screen will, lack of the failback strings, simply stay
    black.

I know, I could simply copy the german strings and change DE to EN. But
this is not so pretty :-)

    Michael,

Would you want the plugin to appear in German even if the user chose
    English as their preferred language?

One approach would be to show whatever language was available in the
event that the English string wasn't available.

Yes. There's no english content available...

I tried to redefine failsafe_language - with no luck. So you think we'd
have to change the string routine to fall even further back in case
    failsafe_language does not exist?
