    Crossfade 10 sec not enough

    Hello,

I really would like to have the crossfade in SBS working with more then 10 sec of time! With 10 sec it often happens that ther still is a gap between songs and sometimes on big playlists or randomplay or party-playlist I hate that!
Cant find a better plugin, anyone knows a way to get this up to minimum 20 sec?

    Cheers

    Markus

No supported way, but if you're running the Perl version (as on Mac OS or Linux), you should be able to modify the appropriate class file (e.g., for SB Classic, Slim/Player/Squeezebox2.pm) to change maxTransitionDuration to something higher than 10, and then change the transitionDuration preference for each player to something higher than 10 but not higher than the new maxTransitionDuration value. You might need to use the CLI (playerpref command?) or edit server.prefs by hand while SBS is down to change the transitionDuration values.

    Crossfade 10 sec not enough

The hardware PCM buffer only holds 10 seconds of audio and that is where crossfading is performed. So unfortunately 10 is a fixed limit.

10 seconds seems plenty. I always thought a nice feature would be to have separate timings for the fade out and the fade in. It's nice to have a gradual fade out, but often you want the the next tune to start at a different rate of fade in. It's nice with no gap in between tunes, so some fade is essential. For example, it may be nice to have the ability to set a to 10 second fade out, and a 4 second fade in.

    Thank you for the answers!

The problem is that in some songs the space without sound at the end is too long for the 10 sec. So if SBS would be able to detect this silence the 10 sec are more then enough.

Why would you want so much silence at the end of a track?

I'm the same, don't know why anyone would use cross fade but willing to try it out and learn. Please tell how and why. My problem is that I usually use albums but not always. I'm sure I could appreciate it with playlists, right?

I agree that it's weird when you play albums, but for random playlists for parties, etc, it sounds neat to have the songs fade from one into another. Not like beat mixing or anything that technical, but more like the "radio" style crossfade.

Winamp does a decent job of this with this plugin:

Is it possible to set crossfade for track play only and not album, kind of how smartgain works? I wouldn't want it for albums as that kind of defeats the whole idea of an album.
