Apple doesn't limit the iPad to 48kHz when you use USB audio, iPad supports 96kHz.

    caching Music Folder

I have arranged all my music in folders over the years. I have about 100 gig or so, and find that navigating through my music folders (on a NAS) is slow. The albums/artists caching is great but I'd much rather go to my music through the folder structure.
Is there anything I can do to speed this up or any plans to cache in a future release?

Sadly this is the same when not using iPeng, folder browsing is slow on slow hardware on all interfaces ,some NAS does not have much of CPU , on faster server hardware this limitations is not always noticed .

    Hi df9864,

as mnyb already wrote: these folders are slow on all platforms. The only way to speed the browsing experience up, is to create some additional subfolders (like "A-F", "G-S", "T-Z"), so that each folder has a smaller set of items.
It is not planned to cache the "By Folder" menu, as the philosophy of the Squeezebox is, that this is a "live" folder and that one does not need to rescan the library to access the latest items in this menu.

I'm very sorry for the inconvenience caused by this.

    Spotify!

    Hi there!

I am a great fan of Squeezebox and i use iPeng to control my music with my iPhone and SqueezePad on my iPad (Also great fan of those ). Everyting works fine atm, i run Logitech Media Server (LMS) on my computer which has all my music stored and i have a Squeezebox Receiver hooked to my Home Cinema in the living room and a Squeezebox Radio in my bedroom. Ok so far so good right

Now instead of downloading music to my computer each time and thus creating this huge collection (also very time consuming) i finally realised that online streaming will be the future and therefore i am making the switch to Spotify, i have a premium account there and i really really like the concept (and don't even mind paying for it ;-)) So now i come to the problem, i would really like to control my music as before, but for some reason Spotify does not play through LMS, only works when connected to mysqueezebox.com (is that right?) I tested this with my SB-radio which i can easily connect with mysqueezebox.com, however i cannot connect my Squeezebox Receiver to mysqueezebox.com (this is the old UDAP issue, it works on LMS just cannot switch it to mySB). So first question do u have to be connected to mySB.com to play Spotify content? it cannot work on LMS? If it only works through mySB i may have to reset my SB receiver again and go through the NET:UDAP procedure... (i do not have a Duet controller as i have no use for it, and it's crap resolutionwise compared to retina displays of iPhone and iPad).

Second question is less important, but i am very attached to nice cover arts (high res) as i also use my iPad (which i can attach to wall) as a cover-display; it seems that the coverart through iPeng (and Squeezepad) running the Spotify App in iPeng/Squeezepad are of really low quality... i find this strange, because they look really nice using the Spotify app itself.

    Thanks a lot!

    Hi Astix,

as already told on the other thread: you need to go to the web-interface of LMS, there to Settings->Plugins and then install triodes 3rd party Spotify plugin.
Then Spotify will also work through your Receiver - you won't need to switch to MySB.com (wouldn't help anyway, as Logitech themself don't support Spotify on the Receiver)

About the cover art: I'm afraid neither me nor pippin from iPeng do have any influecne on that.
Both App requests the cover art in the highest available resolution from the server - this is what Logitech hands us over via their Spotify App.

I don't know if the third party App by triode provides better images - but it is definitely worth a try -maybe this problem is also solved then!

    Hi bluegaspode!

Yesssss it worked like a charm!!! I'm amazed it was that easy hehe

Oh and even te coverart looks better! On my iPhone with iPeng it looks actually really good (not much diff than my own highres covers) on my retina iPad with Squeezepad and iPeng for iPad it still looks blurry in fullscreen (not the thumbnails), so yeah i really hope Spotify will eventually deliver higher res covers to iPeng and Squeezepad which will look sweet on the new iPads too!! ;-)
(With the Spotify app itself the covers do look good, even on new iPad..)

    Thanks!!!

Why does the screen on the device stay off when accessing using SqueezePad?

Question ... Why is it that when I stream music using SqueezePad, that the device that I am streaming from (either Squeezebox Radio or Squeezebox Duet) does not turn on (display stays off) if the unit is in Sleep mode or off whereas with the Logitech Controller app for iPad it would always turn on (to show it's doing something?). Note that with the SqueezePad I do hear audio.. Just the screen on my device doesn't turn on.. Sort of annoying. I am using iOS 6.0 on iPad 2.

    Hi jmiller,

I just tested with my own Radio. It showed the screensaver clock and when I selected a song in SqueezePad for the Radio it turned on and showed the cover.
So it does work like you expect it to do I guess.

Also from a technical point of view, there is no explanation why SqueezePad and the Logitech Controller would behave differently in this regard. Both actually only send commands like "user hit a menu item" or "user hit the play key" to the server, which forwards the message to the Radio, which decides on it's own what to do (regarding the display).

Also the Duet doesn't have a display, what device are you expecting to turn on, when you play music via the Duet?
Did you change something in the screensaver settings of the Radio recently?

Could you please describe in more detail what you are doing (what was visible on the display of the Radio, what menu item did you select in SqueezePad, what was happening then), so maybe I get a better understanding what is wrong either in your setup or expectations.

    Kind Regards
    Stefan

Hi how much concern is it that if I grab hold of a Ipad/Android (to use as a remote for my Touch) it will eventually not work due to compatibility reasons once Ipad/Android firmware and Touch software are no longer compatible with each others?

I give my thanks in advance.
