    Hrm...what's the best way to install this? I tried using the SFSC or whatever mode that is per the wiki. Files are in the right place, rebooted the radio 2-3 times...nothing. Even unplugged it to try to force the reset.

    I had the same problem. The bit I missed was that the folder name was incorrect. It should be named headphones. i.e. /usr/share/jive/applets/Headphones

    Try that and do a restart.

    As with all disclaimers... do this at your own risk as I cannot guarantee this method other than testing it to work ok for me. Paranoia!

    Worked perfectly. Thanks!

    Smile So easy!!

    Just managed to get round to trying this - was a bit phased by remote logging into the radio etc - but it was all so easy! And works a treat!

    THanks to all of you for putting such great help, step by step and applets together for those of us with less in-depth knowledge, but just as much passion for what is an amazing bit of gear.

    I look forward to extending a small speaker to the bathroom - and convincing the wife why we need it!!

    Cheers,

    CJB

    Headphones jack + internal speaker = reduced quality?

    Hi all,

    I just enabled the bluegaspode/abdndamo HeadphonesApplet, and it appears to be working properly. I loaded the app so I could connect a powered sub in combination with the SBR's internal speaker and I noticed right away a reduction in the quality of the internal speaker.

    If I play a song and unplug the headphone-sub, the radio's internal speaker immediately reverts back, and sounds great again.

    Have you guys also found this to be the case?
    Kinda nulls the purpose if you get a reduced sound quality.

    Does it help to just turn the volume down on the sub (or turning it off, but keeping the jack plug in), or lowering the sub's cutoff frequency?

    If so, that may mean you've got a phase problem or that the sub fouls up the system's frequency response. Not having an active filter built into the unit probably makes it more difficult to make the Radio/sub combo sound good, but I believe it should still be possible, with some tweaking.

    Headphones jack + internal speaker = reduced quality?

    Thanks Soulkeeper;

    I will try some tweaking, but the sound quality is noticeably reduced in the SBR's internal speaker, not the sub itself.

    So for example; if I turn the Sub fully-off, but have it plugged into the headphone-jack, and select, "Both on", in the "Headphone switch" app, the sound quality of the music coming only out of the SBR's internal speaker, is low quality. If I then pull the Sub-jack out of the SBR, the sound automatically improves, this is an improvement only in the SBR's internal speaker.

    Can tweaking the Sub's Phase (0 or 180), Low Pass (80-160Hz), or Volume, effect the quality of the SBR's internal speaker?

    Thanks

    Sounds like something is up with the jack sensor. Maybe the speaker and jack output shares the same DSP, and the jack sensor disables the bass boost in the DSP or something.

    If that's it, I don't know if it can be overridden in software. Sorry.

    The Boom's audio design is described in a downloadable PDF, but I haven't seen anything like that for the Radio. Which is a shame, as it would make it much easier to make educated guesses about what's going on.

    Soulkeeper;

    Thanks for your thoughts on this. After some further tweaking, and comparison listening, I've decided that the reduced quality SBR speaker + sub still sounds better than the full spectrum SBR speaker by itself.

    Thanks, now all I need is a 90 degree sub Jack!

    Headphone jack/Sub + Alarm plugin

    Hi;

    I've been using my radio with an added sub connected through the headphone-jack for a few weeks. I've also installed Erland's "Custom alarm window", and each morning (after I've finished multi-snoozing) I select alarm off with the big knob so I can see my main screen with big clock and weather forecast etc, but I immediately turn the music back on. Once I do this the speakers default back to just the headphone-jack, and I have to go into the headphones switch menu, and switch back to "both on" again.

    Anyone else having problems with the sound defaulting back? Any suggestions?

    Thanks,
    Marty
