Using radio headphone socket and speaker

    Hello,

This has been asked elsewhere i think but not sure if in here.

Is there a simple way to use the SB radio's speaker and the headphones socket (line out) at the same time? I want to rig up an extra simple speaker some distance away.

    Thanks in advance.

Yes, in the Duet forum, for some reason. Here you go.

Thanks for the response, but I saw that post - and replied to it - and asked if there was a simpler way. I didn't really understand the response to the original poster I'm ashamed to say!

I don't have a step-by-step guide for you, but here's a step-by-step guide for connecting to your Radio via SSH to disable the IR receptor. If you read this, you may get an understanding of how to connect via SSH.

Then you'll be able to get a prompt where you may run commands like these:

But obviously you need some other permutation of the command, to enable both Speaker and Headphone at once, if at all possible.

To do this, I'd recommend you use Google (search for "amixer", for instance), and experiment. If you do this, I'm sure the Squeezebox community will appreciate your reporting back if what you want is possible, and if so, how to do it. It may even end up with its own wiki article, like the one about disabling the IR receptor.

Thanks very much for the detailed reply, and explaining that. I'll certainly give it a go and let everyone know what I find.

    Wish me luck!

Uh, I have done it but not sure if there is a way to incorporate this into an applet or something so I don't have to ssh in each time. The command is

    amixer -q sset Endpoint FactoryTest

You can download my Headphone Switcher Applet (see my signature).
Note - it can only be downloaded via applet-installer with a duet-controller. (direct link for download is http://www.stagessound.de/squeeze/Headphones.zip)

It's not really big - just a menu with two option (speaker on / headphone on).
Both menu-items actually call the 'amixer' command as well so it should be easy for you to find it in the source-code.

I think this is a very easy starting point to embed your own amixer command

    Hi,

thank you for your applet. I don't have a duet controller. Is there any other method for me to load this to my radio?

    Cheers,

you can download the applet (see link above), enable remote access to your Radio and use WinSCP to copy it directly to the Radio.
Search the wiki (wiki.slimdevices.com) how to install SqueezePlay applets manually.

    Hi bluegaspode,

Many thanks for your help. I have taken your app and added the functionality I require. As well as being able to select the headphone or speaker via your app, I can now select both. I can confirm that for me it works and I have hooked it up to an amp to drive a ceiling speaker and it appears to be fine.

The ceiling for this speaker is still in a shop somewhere as my ensuite is being built, but on my dining room floor test bed, I can confirm it works and I am delighted.

I have also moved the app to the main menu - personal choice!

It is attached if anyone wants to take advantage of this change. I hope this is OK bluegaspode? Credit goes to him and not me! :-) I just wish I could have written this from scratch.

    Cheers
