Should receiver be plugged to switchable outlet?

I was wondering whether it would be best to always leave the Squeezebox Duet receiver in a power-On position or not. I could easily plug it into the switched outlet on my stereo in order to
preserve power, as it would only be used when the receiver is powered on. I don't mind waiting
for the Squeezebox to "find" the wireless source and hook up with the computer, if that would be the only drawback of having it powered down when not in use. I always "turn off" the Squeezebox receiver via the remote before turning off the stereo and computer anyway.

"Turning off" the SBR via remote isn't really turning it off -- it is putting it in standby. When in standby the SBR draws about 3 watts, so it's a marginal energy savings at best. If you want to squeeze out that extra 3w, I'd suggest trying it for a while to see how reliably the SBR reconnects to your network and server -- experience of different users is completely mixed on this. If it reconnects without problems you may as well go for it, and certainly you won't break anything by trying it.

As the prior poster said, Off is really standby so the only way to turn it Off-Off is to unplug it or use a switched power strip or switched wall outlet. Having said that, by using any of those solutions, one loses all network control. The player has to be powered back up, reboot, log back into the network, find the local server, etc, etc.... all in the name of saving at most $15 a Year.

I'll bet you're using your TV in Instant On Mode as well as most of your A/V equipment (anything that can be turned on by a remote).

Not worth the hassles, IMHO. YMMV.

I have one of my Receivers plugged into the switched outlet on a receiver (stereo) in my office where outlets are at a premium. Takes about 35 seconds for the Receiver to wake up and connect fully. Everywhere else I have them in non-switched outlets.

If we all took that approach, you're looking at 20 Gigawatts of wasted power - around 20 nuclear power stations.

I turn my SB Classic off at the mains each night - re-connects fine when I restart.
