Hi, I’m hoping someone can help me. I have had a duet for over a year now and not had too many issues with it to date.
I’m running windows Vista, squeeze server 7.5.1/r30836.
The issue I have is when my PC starts up and squeeze server would normally start and you would get the dialog bubble saying something like “squeeze sever is starting”, and after about 30 seconds or so it would be up and running and the lights on the icon in the tray would go blue.
Now what I get is right from start up it says the server is running, but I cannot open the web control or connect to it. Also if I try and stop the server I get “stopping squeezebox server failed” error message.
This happens on round 4 out of 5 start ups of my PC, it works perfectly on the odd occasion. Reinstalling the squeeze sever software gets it working fine, but this is becoming pretty tiresome. I have never had a prolonged issue like this before, so can someone tell me where to start?

Same issue here...
Hello:
I have the exact same problem on Windows 7. The server looks like it is started but I can't access the web control for it and the Control Panel becomes really slow opening and going from tabs to tabs. It provides the following info under Diagnostics:
Squeezebox Server: Running
Server IP Address: 192.168.0.24
Port 3483 (slimproto): Failed
Port 9000 (HTTP): Failed
Port 9090 (CLI): Failed
Alerts:
Squeezebox Server is running but can't be contacted on port 9000.The following applications might be blocking your connection:
We've seen that your Squeezebox Server is configured to use a proxy server. In this configuration connectivity to mysqueezebox.com on port 3483 can't be tested.
(I am not setup with a proxy...)
Disabling the firewall does not help btw and the only way to make it work again is to re-install the software.
A few month back I had similar issues I though I had solved but not really it seems (http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=73157).

Is something else grabbing the ports?
Skype maybe?
at a command prompt type netstat -a and paste it in here.

Then you should disable that option in SBS/Settings/Advanced/Networking

Reinstalling the squeeze sever software gets it working
Here is what I would do..
1. Find the Run command it's either in the Start menu or in Start>All Programs>Accessories.
2. Type in MSConfig.
3. Go to the Start-Up tab.
4. Go through the list and uncheck everything you don't have to run at start up. Anything that is hard to identify is probably system stuff - leave it alone.
Having too many programs trying to start when you boot your computer causes your computer to start slowly. It can also cause programs to fail to start without giving you any notice.
Learned this long ago when I first got XP. Had a problem where Direct3D would fail about 4 times out of 5. Now if I check it regularly and no problems."Good judgement is the result of experience ... Experience is the result of bad judgement."

Reporting a similar problem
A few weeks back the Squeezebox Server’s Web Control stopped working. Now when I start the Web Control the ‘Loading Squeezebox Server’ screen appears, the circular object swirls but nothing else happens. The same happens when I try to start the Advanced Settings.
The Squeezebox Server Control Panel, however, does not indicate anything being wrong. I can use my Duet from the remote as usual.
To rule out interfering programs, I started Vista in the Safe Mode. Unfortunately the same problem persisted. Regularly I use Chrome as browser, but the Web Control does not start in Firefox or Explorer either.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled the Squeezebox Server program, which did not resolve the situation.
Then I changed the Server’s web port from 9000 to 9001, which did not help either.
Finally, I installed the previous version (7.5.0) of the Server program, but the same problem still persisted.
I am definitely not a computer pro, so I am out of ideas of what to try. Have others had any luck in resolving this problem?
The Squeezebox Server runs in the following environment:
Vista Home Premium, SP2
AMD Turion X2 Mobile ZM-80
3 Gb RAM

Web Control initiation problem solved
With help of Logitech's tech support the problem was solved. The Web Control did not start, because my firewall (ZoneAlarm) had prevented traffic through ports that the Web UI uses.
It appears that ZoneAlarm leaves ports closed even if the firewall application is not started or running. That is why the Web Control did not initialize in the Windows Safe Mode.
After uninstalling and reinstalling the firewall SB Web Control started working.
Cheers, marko

Just a note on this or similar.
I have had the same problem of SBS not starting and a port 3483 error message. The information tab showed the IP address of the server as that set during installation.
For reasons I cannot explain, the Lan port had be switched back to DHCP and hence was running on a different IP address to that the server thought it had.
I couldnt contact the server with a web browser or start the server with the control panel.
I uninstalled and re-installed the application, and that was when I noticed the server wasnt the IP address I expected. So I switched the Lan Port IP address to that expected by the players and they all connected.Last edited by Liquidiser; 2010-09-14 at 02:01.

Hi Marko,
When you had these problems, was the squeezeserver control
panel diagnostics section showing the ports as OK, or as blocked?
I ask because I have the same problem, but the diagnostics
is showing that all the ports are OK. I'd have thought
if there was a problem with the firewall then they
would show as blocked.
If you can let me know, it might save me from pointlessly
uninstalling the firewall if my problem is clearly caused by something
different.

same issue...
Hello everyone,
I bought a new laptop with Windows 7 premium 64 bits, with all the latest updates from windows.
The installation of Squeezebox server went without problems. And It worked fine for a day or two and then I got this*on the squeezebox server panel*:
Squeezebox Server
port 3483 failed
port 9000 failed
port 9090 failed
mysqueezebox,com
port 3483 failed
port 9000 failed
and I've got a error message when I tried to stop the squeezebox server.
I've tried version 7.5.4 up to 7.6.2. with the same result.
The only way I found to resolve the problem was to re-install the squeezebox server. I think the problem occurs when the service starts and fails to start properly. And up to this day I must re-install the application every day or two.
Beginning to regret my old laptop with Windows XP home and sorry for my english.
