Dummy Questions from a new SB Touch Owner

Hello,


Managed to SSH into the Touch usin putty and the correct username - many thanks.


When I select my networks - workgroup I get the error message

"Workgroup is not accessible. You might not have permission to use the network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. The network was not found"


Any ideas what I am doing wrong and why I cannot access the touch this way?

Are you browsing to it in Windows Explorer when you get this error?

Does it prompt you for a username and password? Go back into the sharing settings and verify that the username is still 'Squeezebox' and the password is '1234'.

If your computer has a workgroup name other than "WORKGROUP" it will probably not let you connect. In either the windows explorer address bar or the Run box (from start) you can type:

\\<TouchIPaddress>

For me that would be:

\\192.168.1.102

Note those are back slashes.

You can get the IP address from the settings->advanced->diagnostics menu

This will work whether your computer has the same workgroup or not.

You will then get a box where you have to enter the username and password. (which was given to you when you enabled sharing)

Hello thanks once again for your replies.

I tried typing the following into the run box from the start menu

\\192.168.1.30

this is the address given by the touch.

I get the error message

"\\192.168.1.30 the network path was not found"


I have managed to use WINSCP to access the files on the touch and have loaded the modded file to disable analogue output.


Is there anything else I can check?

It doesn't sound like you have network sharing enabled.

Yes it does sound like it isn't enabled but I keep checking it and it is enabled.


What needs to be running, just to make sure I am not missing something?

The Touch is on and connected to my network.

The Touch has been a little quirky, especially on the patch installer which at first when I selected it doesn't do anything then it worked and I got the 100% fixed volume patch and now it doesn't do anything again.

As per Phil's advice:

If you want to see your HDD attached to the Touch, then don't install Soundcheck's first tweak as that turns off Samba Filesharing...

You've most likely disabled something that is keeping Samba from working. A factory reset is probably called for at this point.
