I have the same problem with playlists on my QNAP NAS and I have not updated. Other than that it works great on initial testing! I will try and update and see if I get any improvement.
**UPDATE**
Changed to the new version, but the problem persists. The saved playlists are displayed after some time (about a minute), but when you hit one, it takes even longer and then I get: "Spotify Error: timeout".
An even more troubling error that I have found now that I have done some listening and testing is that songs are often cut short after about 2-3 minutes (just skips to the next song). This may be related only to iPeng use or something else though, I have not had much time to test why (and when) it occurs.
I guess these problems are related only to the spotify plugin with Squeezebox Server on the QNAPS (659 Pro+ in my case), but maybe there is a chance it could be resolved with a switch to the 7.6 beta? I am running version: 7.5.1 - r30836. It is strange since the regular music and radio functions have been working fine with the same setup on my other QNAP NAS for a long time. Does anyone know if any of the 7.6 beta downloads will work on a QNAP NAS (and if so which one)?

Installation problem
Having just paid for a Premium account, I'm trying to install this plugin on my SB Server (Ubuntu Server 10.04/32bit). Something must have gone wrong:
I checked the checkbox in the plugins page and clicked Apply. I clicked on Restart now and SBS was restarted. However, now when I return to the plugins page, the prompt to restart SBS is shown every time (endless loop). If I choose Restart later, the Spotify plugin is nowhere to be seen in the list.
Can I do something to erase whatever might have been installed of the Spotify plugin, and try again?
Oh, btw, I installed SBS on my Win7 laptop just to see I can get the Spotify plugin to work there, and indeed I can without difficulty! Thanks to the author! But I'd like having it working on my server.

I suspect this is congestion at the spotify end - there's nothing significantly more complex in the plugin code. Do you continually see this and are there any error messages in the helper app log? (there seem to be more error messages relating to playlist errors when it is going slow)

I now installed libFLAC in case that's done by (apt-get install flac). The problem with the endless prompting to Restart now still remains.
The log says:Is there something that can be done to re-download the installation file? As I mentioned, the Spotify plugin is not present at all on the plugins page, so I can't select nor deselect it.Code:[10-11-09 22:28:02.9601] Slim::Utils::PluginDownloader::extract (81) unable to install Spotify - /var/lib/squeezeboxserver/cache/DownloadedPlugins/Spotify.zip does not exist
Can I edit some file so SBS doesn't know it's in the middle of installing a plugin? Perhaps then I could restart the download & install process.

In the prefs directory you could delete plugin/extension.prefs (or just edit it with the server stopped to remove the Spotify line.
May also need to edit the plugin/state.prefs file.
Update: I stand corrected - this is not a server bug if you restart the server it should not get back into this state. Suggest you try updating with plugin.extensions and server.plugins debugged on.Last edited by Triode; 2010-11-09 at 14:30.

libFLAC
guess I'm missing libFLAC:
"
./spotifyd
./spotifyd: error while loading shared libraries: libFLAC.so.8: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
"
Still wonder why the playlist won't even appear..
