I've now tried the new alternative binary on my QNAP TS-239Pro intel atom NAS and the helper app starts without hickups. The plugin settings page also shows that the helper app is running.
I haven't been able to try it with my actual SqueezeBox since im away on vacation, but getting the server part running seems to work so far.
One thing to mention is that spotifyd complained about the dependency of libFLAC.so.8. This "problem" was also there before the new -alt version of spotify. Solved it with a symlink placed in the spotifyd directory pointing to the SqueezeServer libFlac.so.8 location.
To sum it up:
Great work Triode! If you're interested in donations, just let us know.
/Martin

Username
Hi,
Just installed this great plugin, but I have one very irritating issue; each time I restart my server which runs Squeezebox Server, I have to reenter the Spotify username and password. I can for example capitalize the first letter and reenter the password, then it works. After a new restart, I have to use small first letter again to get it to work. I cannot use the same format as the existing one.
I use Win7 x64 on my server.
Someone with the same problem??

This plugin is great! You're the Hero of The Day, Triode!

I have just tried the plugin very briefly but from this limited experience I can just say it works like a charm. I am running a Squeezebox Classic and SBS 7.5.1 on a Ubuntu 64 bit system. The only thing so far is the missing multiple player detection (which someone else has already mentioned).
I would also gladly donate. Just tell me where to send the money.

Plugin not workin in Mac OS X 10.6.4
Super thanks for the plugin Triode, this is perhaps the most expected within the user comunity !!
I have tried with my Squeezebox Duet and Windows 7, it works beautifully. My hardware is a Macbook in dual boot with Bootcamp. No problems here, and the plugin makes listening music so enjoyable that cannot stop saying thank you.
My next natural step was to try the same but in Mac OS X 10.6.4 with a different result. Diving in the Spotify plugin log, I found a line like the following:
main:570 bad player: unable to play on this player: -1
Everything works...but no music at all. I can select my playlist, or even search by artist if I want it, but I was not able to get any music from it. Do you have an idea what could I try now ?. Just let me know anything is needed to debug this.
Just for you to know, I have a premium Spotify account so 320kb stream is selected in the plugin setup.
best regards
Pepe

Hi, please confirm that this plugin definitely works in OSX, as I don't seem to be able to get it working :-(
Strangely I went to the Plugins page in SqueezeServer and pasted the plugin URL into the box, hit apply, etc., however, when SqueezeServer restarted and I went to that page it looked completely different, in terms of the layout, and the box to paste plugin URLs had disappeared! Odd!!
Any ideas?

On my QNAP TS-329 I used a terminal connection to get the helper app running manually first. That way i could easily see the output from the helper app.
To do this you have to enable ssh on your QNAP from the admin pages. Then use putty or a similiar program for your terminal connections. I also used WinSCP for easier file transfers.
To get it running i did the following:
1. Installed the latest version of the plugin.
2. Located the install dir using this terminal command: "find / -name spotifyd".
3. Replaced the spotifyd binary in the found location with the alternative one.
4. Located libFLAC.so.8 since spotifyd couldn't find it (i guess because of non standard paths on the QNAP or something like that) and made a symlink to it in the same directory as spotifyd.
Good luck.
