Hi.
I realise this is not an official support channel but nontheless - this is a pre-purchase question. Will playback of high res material (up to 24/96) be fixed on the Touch? By fixes I mean brought to perform without any breakups. External server requirement is OK with me, but wireless should work, nor should it be necessary to close down processes (on the Touch) that would otherwise normally run.
Realising such a guarantee is much to ask, alternatively, is attempting to fix this a fairly high priority.
I've followed the thread on 24/96 playback issues and solutions. It doesn't provide a clear answer to this.
TIA

bug 15361: Can't play 24/48 or 24/96 flac without stutter and rebuffering
Implement outputThreshold
"
Soon on a 7.6 near you :-)
It apparently is a little impatient with 24/96 over wifi sometimes it takes longer than expected to fill the buffer and Touch starts playing prematurely.
This fix address that problem.
I also use an external server, which you do anyway if you have a large collection and use plugins and want's the web-UI .
I do Enjoy 24/96 playback but i use wired Ethernet. I did get tools and wire beforehand I never expected 24/96 over wifi to work regardless of marketing claims as wifi is wifi (nothing to do with the squeezebox itself).
To my surprise it does work except for the initial stutter , which shall be remedied by the latest fix I hope.
I think i reflaced to -5 instead of -8 but my memory is weak :-/
It was one command line and that took care of that.
I remember the old SB3 days where wifi was sold as an option that you could use if it suited you and you had a network that was up to it.
Now the marketing is bolder, claims wifi as a main selling point, but the realities of wifi is worse than ever ,my count of neighboring network is on the rise all the time.. >14 and raising.
I think logitech is jacking up the expectations on what can be accomplished by wifi.
Imho wire what can be wired I mean *one* tiny wire more behind that HT setup who cares.--------------------------------------------------------------------

Makes sense mnyb.
I'm running the latest nightly of 7.6 using wireless. Should I have the fix?
The only issue I have is the initial stuttering. It does start the actually playback very fast - faster than
my TP. Giving the buffer a sec or two to full would likely fix it afaiks.

Btw. I agree as far as nor would I, trust the US nuclear weapons systems to be controlled over 802.11. My personal wireless network has always performed to satisfaction though, so I won't be cabling anything until given a really really good reason. This is not it.

Yes I'm to much an engineer sometimes (my professional life is leaking over to my hobby's)

I can simply not resist a simpler and better technical solution.
Why complicate things.
My home decoration suffers instead, depends on point of view the slight loss of aesthetics is vastly compensated by the performance in my pow.
Other people might see it differently.
They probably thinks that my living room looks like enterprise with all hifi gadgets in plain sight, why hide them they are beautiful too

Take away "wireless issues" and "itunes issues" and most of this forum goes away.

I live in a small town of 325 people (100 or so houses) I pick up no less that 9 wireless connections at my house. Several I use for free when my cable internet is down.
2 of the wireless connections are from the wireless internet company my son works for. Lots of opportunity for interference, signal degradation, etc.
When we bought this house we decided to take the time to run wire. The house is 100 plus years old. It was a PITA to run the wire in plaster/lath walls and under a crawlspace.
BUT.....we never have problems with our music system. It works 99.9% of the time.
Wireless is an option to be sure but it is hardly the most optimum option. The only thing we use wireless for is laptops and even then we have three access points in the house to keep the signal strong.
Wireless is great but you are right about the hype...
