Love my SB Radio. I use it every day for over 8 hours during work. I never use the alarm and I've never had problems. I mostly stream internet radio and maybe play some stuff from my itunes library off my mac htpc running squeezecenter. Rhapsody seems to work very well also.
One of the great things is being able to use ipeng for the iphone/touch from any room in the house. Makes it easier to type in searches for artists that way.

I love my SB Radio too.
I don't use the alarm as it's usually in the kitchen or out in the garden when it's BBQ weather

I love my SB Radio. It has good sound and it is stable....it is compact and solid. I think it is very cool. I use it in the bathroom as a portable radio with its battery.
The surprising thing is that my wife actually wants me to order another radio and battery to have outside in our backyard garden. I think my wife is developing some "SB addict" signs.Last edited by Ikabob; 2010-05-12 at 02:38.

Squeezebox Radio is the first internet radio type device I have purchased and I love it. I got it to replace an aged and dysfunctional clock radio. The alarm has worked fine for me except for the odd occasion when there was user error and I set it incorrectly. There have been some issues with the backup alarm kicking in (which can be traumatic), but it has always got me up.
I have not used the SBserver to stream music from my computer because I do not have a digital music collection (yet), but I listen to internet radio a lot. At the moment, it is suffering from occasional stream drops, but they are easily remedied.
I do listen to podcasts which you say is one of the things you plan to use it for. The only problem with the Radio is that it does not have a bookmark function so that if you stop listening to a podcast to go to another program you will lose your place and have to FF to where you were (if you can remember) which is a pain. Also, some podcasts do not support FF so that if you leave them before they finish, you have to go back and listen all over again to get to the point where you left off, an even bigger pain.
All these things aside, I love my radio. All it takes is a little patience. However, those of us who lived through Windows 5.1, do not complain too much about buggy programs.

Not perfect, but good nonetheless
When visiting product forums to make purchasing decisions, it always helps to remember that most people only come to report problems. There is little point in a bunch of "I love it" posts. That is why the majority of posts will always be "negative".
Anyway, I have to SB Radios and a SB Duet. I love my Radios! Are they perfect? No. Do they occasionally exhibit some of the problems in this forum? Yes. But those issues are just minor annoyances and/or inconveniences. Hopefully they will get resolved with future firmware updates. Bottom line, it's still a good product, despite it's minor flaws.

So, you really think that having the Squeezebox radio disconnect itself from the network frequently, freeze up while playing, and require multiple reboots daily are just "minor annoyances" and an "inconvenience"?
Perhaps I'm setting my standards too high. I expected it to simply work.

I wrote the top review of the SB Radio for Amazon. However I can no longer give the product a four star rating as the problems continue to stack up with newer FW versions and Logitech doesn't seem interested in putting the resources in to fix them.
I will be updating my review to reflect the current issues.

You shouldn't assume everyone else is having the problems you're having. I can't speak for what "minor annoyances" RichardDavies is seeing, but I'm not having any of the problems you mention. It probably has something to do with running a local SBS.
My SB Radio's clock drifts by about 40-60 seconds per week, so I have to do a full power off and restart once a week to get it to sync to a time server. I consider that a minor annoyance. Otherwise, it works, including the alarm every morning.

I, too, am having no problems with the SB Radio.
