Hello all,
I've had Squeeze box server running on my Ubuntu system (through all of it's name changes) for a few years now. I've just been out of the country for a few months and returned to an odd problem.
Lots of tracks simply don't show up on my Players!
For example, if I browse by folders, I can go to Bjork, I can go into all of her sub folders which are the album titles, but inside of each of them it just says 'Empty'.
If I search for her by artist, she doesn't even show up!
I've checked MP3 tags etc and I'm sure everything is fine there. I tweaked the tags of the entire library not so long ago using EasyTAG.
Lots of tracks are on the system fine, but lots aren't there at all.
The files are still on the server and I can play them manually by using my networked computers.
I have tried doing a complete rescan several times, but that doesn't seem to have sorted it.
Last night, I upgraded to Ubuntu 10.04, which seemed to break Squeezebox completely so I completely removed it and re-installed it. I'm now back to the same semi functioning system.
I have heard others mention settings in the itunes plugin, but I don't use itunes, so that is turned off.
Any ideas?
What can I do to debug this?
Thanks
Damian

Hi,
That was my first though, but I don't think it is that. I renamed all of my files and folders that had strange characters recently because it was interfering with the synchronisation I have set up between my Windows and Linux systems (I use Unison and it didn't like the odd characters). I've also cleaned up tags so I don't believe that any file, folder or tag has any of these characters.
Any other ideas where to go with this?

Any idea where I might find those in Ubuntu?
I'm starting to think it could be from when I updated the MP3 tags. I actually took out all strange characters, but maybe something broke in the process. All of the files look fine in Easy TAG though.
It's definitely not a problem with folder names. If I browse by folder, I can see all the artists and albums. But when I go inside them, the players just say 'Empty'.

Log File
Don't know where it is stored on ubuntu but you can access it via the server webui. Go to http:\\localhost:9000 on the PC running the server. It's under settings\Information (the last tab on the right). It's at the bottom of the page.

Just had a bit of time to check my logs.
The scanner log seems to be completely empty. Does that imply a problem with the log or that everything is running fine as far as the scanner is aware?
There's data in the server log, but I don't really know what I'm looking far.
Really confused by what's happening. I tried to play a 'Pulp' album today and it only played 3 songs. As far as my Squeezeboxes are concerned there were only 3 songs on the album. I know all the files are there, and they've all played perfectly well in the past. I have no idea where to go with this.
Any thoughts?

Log shouldn't be empty.
Go to http:\\localhost:9000
Then settings \ advanced \ logging.
You would check the setting for scan.scanner and set it to info\debug. this should provide a lot of information in the log file.
Then go to basic settings and clear and rescan the library. Then check your logs.Louis

It's not just a logging setting issue (although you should check that too) The scanner.log file does appear to be empty on ubuntu - what you have to do is navigate to where the logs are kept in var/log/suqeezeboxserver/ and you'll see zipped archives with a .gz extension. Right click and select 'Open with Archive Manager', then a new file explorer opens showing you the contents - then Open With.. gedit (the text editor)
Let us know what the error is - I've a feeling that this may be related to my incomplete scans [ http://forums.slimdevices.com/showth...t=78580&page=2 ] ... I've just noticed that one of the side effects of my incomplete scans is just as you describe; artists not appearing, and not all songs being included in albums.
