I installed Squeezebox server 7.5.1 in an attempt to be able to fast forward/rewind ALAC music. It doesn't work. Then I found out that it sees my Apple Lossless music files in my iTunes music folder as "Quick Time Movie" format. Then I use Max to convert a few iTunes ALAC files to "Apple Lossless" format defined in Max. Now Squeezebox sees those converted files as "MPEG-4" format, and is able to fast forward/rewind them just fine. In iTunes both files are shown as "Apple Lossless". What happened? Thanks in advance.

Because the ALAC files are imported into the library via iTunes
I have found out what happens. When Squeezebox Server uses iTunes, AND its own "Music Folder" refers to a different location from the iTunes Media Folder (formerly iTunes Music Folder), songs in the iTunes Media Folder are all seen as "Quick Time Movie" format - they are "imported" into Squeezebox Server's library when you rescan the library. If Squeezebox Server's Music Folder includes iTunes Media Folder (type in the path in Settings/Basic Settings/Music Folder), all those songs become "Apple Lossless". When you rescan the library, Squeezebox Server first "Directory Scan" the Music Folder, then performs "iTunes Import" and "Database Cleanup", resulting the file format as "Apple Lossless".
It seems to me that there is some mechanism in "iTunes Import" that creates "Quick Time Movie" format. Is it a bug? Or there is something I missed?Last edited by vincentyan; 2010-05-09 at 04:16. Reason: Found the real reason
