    Squeezeplay can't play converted mp3's

I'm using Squeezeplay to listen to my music library while i am at work.

Because of bandwith issues I let all my music to be converted to mp3 (128kbps). I mostly have flac's but also a few mp'3. The flac's play fine (as mp3) but the native mp'3 that are converted always give an error (can't play the file).

Original mp3's that aren't converted also play fine.

Does anyone have a clue how to solve this?

    My setup:
    Squeezebox Server version: 7.5.0 - r30464
Squeezeplay 7.5 (different versions makes no difference)
    OS: Linux Opensuse 11.2
    File types: MP3 MP3 Native

    How are you converting them.

I regularly convert wave to mp3 using Lame and they play fine on squeezeplay.

    Debian Squeeze server LMS 7.8.0
    Netgear WNR2000V3 wireless network.

I let Squeezebox server do the converting.
    Settings > Player > Squeezeplay > Audio > Bitrate Limiting: 128 kbps

So basically almost al my music gets converted. the Flacs play fine (as 128 kbps mp3), also the mp3's with a bitrate below 128 kbps play fine. They are not being converted ofcourse and are played as they are.

Only mp3's with a higher bitrate that are converted by the server using sox, won't play.

I just found out that the same goes for my Receiver, it won't play those mp3's either, so i gues it's not an Squeezeplay issue but maybe has something to do with sox

I have the same problem. Annoying as most of my albums are mp3 max quality. I'm slowing making them all into FLAC's but Windows Media Player won't play FLAC's and neither will my HTC Desire phone!

Question: What about leaving recordings as WAVs?? Will SBS play WAVs?? Will the album art, track info be available with WAV's??

    Cheers

it will play WAV files but tags are problematic. Why not solve the problem by keeping a FLAC library for playing at home via SB and an mp3 mirror library for playing on ipods, Windows Media Player, your phone, etc. That's what I do. Storage space is so cheap these days....
