I've just ordered an Earthworks M23 mic (£360), Upgrade to Audiolense 4.0 will follow asap. Sounding really good at the moment.
You want to see the signal path BEFORE it gets onto a CD/vinyl...it ain't what you'd call minimal...
    Touch(wired/W7)+Teddy Pardo PSU - Audiolense 3.3/2.0+INGUZ DRC - MF M1 DAC - Linn 5103 - full Aktiv 5.1 system (6x LK140's, ESPEK/TRIKAN/KATAN/SEIZMIK 10.5), Pekin Tuner, Townsend Supertweeters,VdH Toslink,Kimber 8TC Speaker & Chord Signature Plus Interconnect cables
    Stax4070+SRM7/II phones
Kitchen Boom, Outdoors: SB Radio, Harmony One remote for everything.

Was that TACT mike you were using before?
Do you think that's critical for pink noise measurements?
I do not know, but I bought Behringer assuming that's good enough..
Interesting to see how bad it is (i.e. the Behringer I mean)

    I just saw that's 450$+tax on B&H. Ouch!
And Earthworks say they provide with the electronic calibatrion files 'at additional cost'. Did you get these?

The cal file is $50 to download (I Think - I emailed them... waiting for a response... when the mic arrives I have to send them the serial number).

Michael, the Audiolense sweeps aren't pink noise, they are sine sweeps. The TACT mic was sold along with the TACT, so I needed a mic. The Behringer mics have a pretty wild frequency response. I figured having made some money back on the TACT I should get a decent mic :-)

Aha.. so they calibrate automatically every mic they make.
    nice.

    mics and calibration files

    Michael
There are some other brands with calibration files, not outrageous amounts of money (but more than the behringer)

Audiolense sells a kit with mic, calibration file and mic amp on their site for 160 Euro, if my memory is good.

LinearX has great mics with very good individual calibration files (if you tell them the format you need for the file, they'll make it for you in that format); if you get one of their less expensive ones it's about $175. You are pretty much guaranteed flat response.

Dayton audio makes an inexpensive measurement mic with calibration file - available for about $50. For room measurement (freq response)purposes I bet it is fine.
http://www.parts-express.com/pe/show...number=390-801 They also sell the Behringer, so you could ask them how they compare.

BTW, there is company selling the Behringer with calibration files: http://www.cross-spectrum.com/measur...behringer.html;they also sell the Dayton audio mic with what's claimed to be a better calibration file: http://www.cross-spectrum.com/measur...ed_dayton.html

I would think in general the individual calibration file is very important in this application

GIK Acoustics Room Treatments. Tranquil PC fanless server running Windows 7; SB Touch slaved to Empirical Audio Pace Car; Mytek 192 DSD DAC;Custom Desinged Class AB control amp; Devore Gibbon 9 Speakers; Dual 506 + Ortofon M20 (occasional use); sometimes use PC with M-Audio 192 as digital source. SB Boom in second room. Arcam CD82 which I don't use anymore, even though it's a very good player.

Yes - above 1kHz the response is a bit "ragged"

The key thing is that the Earthworks is +1/-3 dB between 9-23kHz out of the box.

Not sure about the others, but my TACT had some +/-10dB errors at the high end...

I think for most purposes the LinearX mics are fine.

    I just thought I'd treat myself :-)

Your "Can't open file for..." problem could be caused by an error in the custom-convert.conf file that is generated by the Inguz plugin.pm code.

But - my guess is that the Qnap is unable to run Inguzdsp.exe for some reason..
I took my first stumbling steps last night to install inguz. I managed to get as far as havig the plugin indicated, initiating it, and getting the EQ menu using chrome as the browser (Win 7). I manged to play around with the setting but could only get the down buttons to work for balance and probably other settings. The problem is that having got some random minus settings, i was then unable to return them to zero. I tried using IE8 but that just gave a stange response when up and down button were pressed [I am at work now so don't have it in front of me]. I couldn't manage to reset the settigs in chrome either. even when i disabled the plugin, restarted SBS then re-enabled the plugin and restarted SBS it was stuck with my random settings.
1 Is there a way of deleting the file storing these values. I couldn't locate it in the folder where the plug in lives (although I may be confused about that as it had to be put somewhere different from the location ideintfied on the inguz website)I take it that i am better off working in IE8 from now on- although it wasn't a great success last night.
    2. Given that my PC is in a different room fro the stereo: the web browser control isn't much use: can I control the inguz EQ settings on the touch itself or via Ipeng
    3. I have't actually worked out what effect the web- browser EQ settings were having (it was getting late by then). Forgive me if I am being stupid but are -figures for balance supposed to make the left channel louder relative to right or less loud?

UP and down buttons definitely work in IE8. You can manually edit the settings... search for *.conf files in a folder something like Documents and settings/all users/inguzeq/settings...
