How about installing 7.4? It worked, you'll be able to play your ALACs, and you wait for a fix.

Actually, I just checked my system. I'm running 7.5 on a Mac MINI with OS 10.5.8 and 75% of my library is ALAC (we are talking Apple Lossless, right?). Randomly selecting a file plays fine. Just for the heck of it, did you re-scan your library? I mean DELETE AND RE-SCAN? It makes a huge difference after major changes like this.

hmm... I did delete the entire Squeezebox folder and rescan.

I have exactly the same problem with 7.5 and the latest 7.5.1. Tried both with clean installs and full re-scans but still unable to play Apple Lossless files. There has been some suggestion that files encoded with different software might work better than others, but I have not been able to find any that work for me.
    Running OS X on a G5 PPC 10.5.8.
Happy to help de-bug this if someone can point me in the right direction, but for now no-one seems to be acknowledging that this seems to me a major problem with 7.5.
Back at 7.4.2 for now which all works OK.

I just converted some flacs to ALAC in DBPoweramp and they all play fine... the common thread appears to be iTunes... maybe there is something different about the way iTunes creates alac files?
You want to see the signal path BEFORE it gets onto a CD/vinyl...it ain't what you'd call minimal...

    Thanks for your reply.
I have ALAC files created in various different versions of iTunes and also files created by Max and Rip. So far I have not been able to find any that play with 7.5. Is this just a Mac thing?

I was going to say yes, but I'm not 100% sure it is just a Mac thing - there are ALAC issues (at least problems with FAAD) on Windows too - perhaps there are 2 different problems whose common thread is alac?

I have just checked, and it seems that a range of bugs have already been filed about this issue (or issues?) so I guess I will just stick at 7.4.2 for now until some solution is found... At least this gives me a reason to save my money and not buy that Touch I would so very much like (but don't really need!) just yet.

Should have also said that there do appear to be separate issues - it seems FAAD is crashing part way through playing for some people. For me, nothing at all plays - I just get a message "Cannot open file for....".

I get that message, where it cant open the file. And sometimes it just sits at 0. I use XLD to convert all my ALAC files. Great little program. Its weoird that some people are not having a problem.

If I had to go back to 7.4.2, where would I get it?
    Thanks.
