    3.0TB USB drive on Touch?

I'm considering building a 3.0TB external USB drive for use with the Touch. This would done with a dual USB enclosure that has support for SPAN/BIG and/or RAID 0 and two 1.5TB drives. The controller in the enclosure would present a single 3.0TB partition to the Touch.

It appears that I can format a single 3.0TB partition with either NTFS (using GPT on Windows 7) or with Linux ext2/3.

Does anyone know of either of these file system formats will work with the Touch?

    Thanks,
    Kim

Yes either filesystem will work. I don't think we've tested partitions larger than 2TB but I expect you'll be fine.

I would go for ext3 if you are comfortable with that.

Because the Squeezebox Touch runs Linux and has true, native support for ext3 (which is also a journaling filesystem). Microsoft filesystems are something of an add-on for Linux and the performance is generally poorer.

I am using a 2TB with my Beta Touch without issue. I would think as long as the enclosure/drives are externally powered and the Touch recognizes the array as one drive that you would be OK. Hey, let us know how it goes as I only have about a quarter of my library on the 2TB drive I'm using (basically my favorite favorites).

How do you find the responsiveness of the Touch using TinySC with an external drive?

Currently Im using an old Dell P4 1GB ram with Ipeng..which can SOMETIMES be a bit laggy...

Id be happy transplanting my 1TB WD Essentials drive through to the listening room and plugging it into the Touch if it speeds up the responsiveness.?

*NB I dont use many plugins..and only have the one SB product.

From my point of view and how I use it, once its scanned its fast. Some things to consider, it is going to depend on how 'You' are using it. There are no Plugins with TinySC except for the ones that have become a living part of SBS. Some people are working on hacks and it might end up third party. The things I have tried have caused the Touch to crash over time. Memory is the issue which is why their is also no WebUI.

I think it should have been called SlimSC as its a slimmed down version of SBS. It might have been if Logitech had not bought Slim Devices.

If you want full featured SBS, Touch in standalone mode is not going to be for you. Don't get me wrong because it opens huge new ways to use ones digital library. In the Car, at the weekend home, over at a friend's house, bring into the office without putting anything on the company PC or using bandwidth to SSH home, and so on. No need to load SBS on somebody else's PC to show them what Squeezebox is all about for local music. Touch in standalone mode opens a whole new world of Squeezebox use!

    Thanks for that!

Using the Touch strictly as a listening room "front end" so I'll see how I do with the Touch itself...and if I can do without the few plugins I use...

    Cheers.
