Is this the first release that used faad.exe to play apple lossless files? I am thinking that this change was made as an attempt to add the ability to FF/RW lossless files (which would be much appreciated!! if it worked reliably). Clearly it could have used some more testing though.
Yep, that's why we have nightly builds available to anyone, so you could have been the one to test and find this bug before release. We depend on the community for much testing, especially in edge cases like this.

I appreciate the work you and the community do. I am a software developer responsible for developing and testing several products, some I get paid for and some I don't. It would be a significant undertaking to keep my own test server for testing nightly SBS builds, setting up automated scripts etc. as I assume should help to catch these issues. I am just a Logitech customer who wants to enjoy my three squeezeboxes. I liked 7.4.2 fine, but got a message saying I should upgrade to 7.5, and so I did.
I have a question: could I have avoided downgrading to 7.4.2 simply by editing the convert.conf file so that the alc to pcm entry looked like this:
    alc pcm * *
    # F
    [alac] -r $FILE$
Would that have reverted back to the working alac behavior of 7.4.2 while otherwise allowing me to continue using 7.5? If so, I suggest posting this as a workaround for all those having problems with alac and 7.5.
I don't want to reinstall 7.5 to try it at this point, and realize that I may be way off base on this suggestion (many gaps in my understanding of how SBS works).

Jose - please can you post your CONVERT.CONF file as an attachment?
    Thanks

You want to see the signal path BEFORE it gets onto a CD/vinyl...it ain't what you'd call minimal...

    Hi Phil

Here is the convert.conf file renamed as convert_txt.txt
I was unable to load the convert.conf file as it was an unrecognised format

Interestingly, 7.51x has been playing for about 30 min without a faad error...

Jose - according to the above, your M4a files will now be using the native AAC decoder - not using faad. You should not be seeing any faad errors now.

This also means we can't follow-up on the upsampling question until faad has been fixed (I'm assuming that faad will get patched at some point).

We need faad to feed into sox to do the upsampling.
    regards

    Thanks Phil

I will wait to see whether a fix for faad is announced.
Appreciate all your help on this.

... or I might have got this completely wrong. The whole situation with ALAC vs Mpeg-4 I find rather... confusing.

FLAC is so much simpler :-)

    Not good enough

Sorry Andy but this is not good enough !

It is LOGITECH who releases the queezeboxserver software.
It is LOGITECH who decided to release a patched version of faad.
It is therefore LOGITECH's responsibility to adequately test both.

It is completely unacceptable to blame the ( paying ) customer when things don't work as they should due to LOGITECH's inadequate testing.

I personally find your remark insulting and I sincerely hope it doesn't represent Logitech's position.
