Mark is right that the correct way is an init.d script, and update-rc.d to setup the run-level links.
If you want to run squeezeslave uniterrupted just use:
nohup squeezeslave
This will allow you to logout of ssh and still keeps the process running.
Cheers,
Menno
PS. apt-get install sysv-rc-conf for an easy way to see/adjust the runlevel links.

Thanks for the tips.
I will install those packages.
What works for me using SSH
nohup aoss ./squeezeslave 192.168.1.107 -R &
That allows me to shut down putty and it still works.
Great.
Now if someone cut and paste working start up script, then it will be done.
I tried to use 2 squeezeslaves at same time, doesn't work, maybe I have to change name or something else. But one works at this point. What happens is it switches every few seconds from one squeezeslave to the other and only 1 slave shows up in squeezeboxserver page. Not sure how to make each slave name different.
Put one in my living room, cool!

SqueezeSlave working USB Audio Card
Hi all,
I've tested a bit with SqueezeSlave. Yes, it works! But the sound is very "knacky". So I tried with different setups: SqueezeSlave on DockStar, on SheevaPlug. One time I put all on one system, one time I separate server and client. The result is the same, ugly sound! So I've put in the USB-Audiocard in my windows PC, that works with great sound! So could you please report your experiences? Which device do you use?
My USB-Soundcard is a SpeedLink SL 8850 TBK Vigo
Greetings,
ThomasLast edited by truehl; 2010-11-05 at 15:01.

I have no problem with the sound quality.
I've seen some people mention troubles they've had with sound playback in general. Try a different audio player. I've recall some people who had issues it was more of a driver or configuration issue of the usb card. Also the cheaper less khz range ones sound worse.

hi,
im using the terratec aureon dual usb soundcard and getting the choppy ("scratchy") sound as well
http://www.terratec.net/en/products/..._USB_9842.html
looking at the squeezeslave archives, it seems that "the next version" usually sorts out this problem ...
ps im using nohup aoss ./squeezeslave 127.0.0.1 -R &
