Thanks Ralphy for the tips.
It would be nice to have slave use Mac address of dockstar and do auto scan for squeezeserver and connect.
It would then be automatic process.
Or in setup have option to input ip range of router, generally it's 50 ip's for example : 192.168.1.100 to 192.168.1.150.
So scan and connect and maybe if not connect, look for server at some type of time interval looking for active squeezeservers and just connecting.
One other thing, I notice after about 12 hours of playing music on a dockstar slave, the music breaks up and I get clicking sounds. I just have to stop the music and start it again and it works for another 12 hours or so. Some bug hiding inside the dockstar.![]()

Squeezeplug webmin module or standalone web page
Hi,
I've been enjoying all the activity related to Squeezeplug and the good work of Thomas, et al.
With all the updates and the inclusion of Webmin to the base install, I had an idea that it would be nice to have a dedicated Web GUI for Squeezeplug like the folks at Vortexbox have done? Or, maybe a Webmin module specifically for Squeezeplug could be created?
Maybe this is not for the short term, but it might be a direction to consider for the future?
While I have been hacking around with Linux since the 90's, I'm still pretty deficient in my knowledge and more often than not appreciate the web interface such as Webmin for making it easy for me to maintain and administer my various Linux servers.

ctbarker32
Nice suggestion.
I was playing around with my WD TV LIVE that is hacked and it does have webpage where you can do all types of stuff to unit.
So a dockstar webpage where we can check status of servers, torrents, samba, etc, even remote control image where you can control everything from PC could be cool. They have a picture of the TV remote and if you push the buttons with the mouse it controls the TV, very cool. So something like that for dockstar. Reboot, shutdown, and all types of stuff.
I was impressed with the wd tv live webpage and that is why I started new thread about making squeezeserver for that device since it also is using debian squeeze as operating system.
The reason I'm mentioning the WD tv live thing is just to give indication of what ctbarker32 was talking about.
That would be very cool to have ICONS of programs running and configure them from a menu like program like wd t v live does, and since it's using the same debian squeeze os as we are, maybe guys can figure out how to adjust it to our dockstars.
There is even a app maker program for wd tv live , where it walks you through how to make app for wd tv live. We could do the same for dockstar.
This is exciting.

Hi ctbarker32 and all the others!
I'm thankful for all the good hints and ideas! Having a Web-Interface would be nice, definitely. I'm thinking about this from the beginning of my project on. But please remember that I'm the only one, working on this project. Some guys support me, but it's hard work for me. I spend a lot of time with this project. You should ask my family
. And please remember that I have a normal job to do with a lot of work two. I have two little children and they need time two. And a last please remember that I'm not a Linux Guru! Last year, in the beginning of this project I knew nothing about Linux.
I'm always searching for guys to join my project and to support it. But it's more than difficult. I would be very happy if we could make a project with some more interested guys, you don't have to be a Linux Guru to get something to run. I'm an example for that! So come on and join SqueezePlug actively, it's fun!!!
Support for new device is quite to much for me alone! I think Dockstar is running very well these days so the next days I'll spend some time with the SheevaPlugs to get the same nice things there. The same is true for Tonido!
I want to thank especially Ralphy and Richman for the support the last weeks, please support me further on!!!
Hallelujah
Greetings,
Thomas

Thanks Thomas and the rest of you guys for making my dockstar and tonidoplug cool devices.

Unfortunately, squeezeslave won't be able to find the server automatically. I've intensionally left that feature out to make connecting remotely simple as you don't need to setup a vpn tunnel. So we would need to be able to configure the sb server name/ip if it's not running on the same system as squeezeslave.
I've never had anyone report the clicking sounds after ~12 hours of playback. The first thing I would try is changing the usb sound card. Could also be an over flowed variable in the ARMel port, which I'd have to investigate.Ralphy

Squeezeslave donations always appreciated.

Music IP
Hi,
Has someone tried to run the music ip server on the dockstar? (I would do the analysis on a more powerful pc).

possible reason for Problems with latest debian (for kirkwood kernels)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thomas
hi
came across this interesting article on the issue thats caused lots of probs on sheevaplugs (should be same issues on pogos and dockstars) and may very well be the reason for the scratchy sound with new kernels
so if the latest debian kirkwood kernels have the patch for the new chipset, that may mean our older chipset has probs with new kernels

Ralphy,
hi
do you have by any chance something like a squeezeslave friendly transcoding script for non std sample rates that sometimes occurs with audiobooks (mp3) or radio streams (mp3/wma)
thx

Update?
Earlier this year I followed an older version of these instructions to get a working SBS on a Sheevaplug. For various reasons, amongst which was the reports I was seeing about blown power supplies, I only really dabbled with it and it didn't go into active service. Instead I kept my Mini-ITX server going. Having recently bought a replacement power supply from NewIT and fitted it, I am now ready to take the plunge and switch to the plug.
My question is: should I start from scratch and reinstall with the latest versions of everything or is what I set up before still a reasonable starting point? The login on the plug tells me this:
Linux **** 2.6.30-2-kirkwood #1 Sun Sep 27 22:57:55 UTC 2009 armv5tel
and the SBS version is:
Version: 7.5.0 - r30464 @ Thu Apr 1 05:20:51 PDT 2010
I'm not sure how this version of Debian relates to what is currently recommended. If it's OK maybe I could just update SBS?
I'm feeling a bit out of touch so any advice would be welcome. Thanks.Last edited by Zoltan; 2010-12-21 at 05:54.
