<rant>
Tired of every upgrade bringing issues. AVG 9 plus 7.4.2 not working. Not sure if this is an AVG or Squeeze issue and to be frank, I don't care anymore.
If I wanted to be in IT I would be, something has to give with the server software or Squeezebox is never, ever going mainstream. I have a SB3/Classic, and have been a user for three plus years but am growing tired of every upgrade seemingly requiring troubleshooting, uninstall, reinstall, reconfig etc.
That plus customer service with Logictech blows. I have a request on file since Jan 21, 2010 for a new remote...still waiting four calls and promises later. Hey if in January I had been told of backorders etc I would be fine..it was the 48 hrs delivery promise that has me ticked. Plus now AVG and squeezecenter are fighting. Time for FM radio.
<end rant>

Try it and see what it can do for you,i use the full registered version and finds it works very well with any program i have installed.

I have been using AVG for a year and have never had a problem with AVG/Squeezecentre..... until today ! Now I have exactly the same problem as the original OP.
The Squeezebox server is running without a problem but if I try and open the control panel AVG blocks the squeezesvc.exe file and reports a Trojan Horse Dropper.Agent.RTL warning. The Web UI is still accessible.
I guess it's time to change my AV !

I just discovered I have the same problem. AGV 8.5 Free's Resident Shield has taken out some of my Squeezebox Server 7.4.3 files:
* squeezeboxcp.exe
* scanner.exe
I set AGV to notify me instead of quaranteening silently, and upgraded to SBS 7.5.0. Same result, except now I could click "ignore" to prevent AGV from quaranteening the files. Still cannot open the SBS control panel, though.
Then I went to AGV's Overview - Manage exceptions - Add path, and added "c:\program files\squeezebox" as an exception. Problem solved.Last edited by Soulkeeper; 2010-03-19 at 03:19.

You better inform AVG about it. Running away will just let you make the same experience at some other point with some other product. Errors happen, but they can fix it. Some even do.

Running Free AVG 9.0.791 on two XP computers, one with SBS 7.4.2 and one with SBS 7.5
All working fine, all SBS instances launch fine, all four SB players connect fine.
Make sure your squeezeboxserver.exe is in AVG's exceptions list.
I did notice that AVG updates recently required a reboot, which is unusual for AVG updates.
Must have been a more serious update than normal.
