I disagree. Using a static IP for the sbs server machine makes it easier/faster for players to reconnect in certain circumstances. I have always used dhcp for players and static ip for the server. There is no downside to using static IP for the server.

You want to see the signal path BEFORE it gets onto a CD/vinyl...it ain't what you'd call minimal...

The server should have a fixed IP address. Your player will get a DCHP issued, MAC based IP address. Every DHCP device will offer it's known IP address to an DHCP server. Only if it conflicts with an existing address will assign this IP address to the device identified by the MAC address.
In my LAN I've only given the Squeezebox Server a fixed IP address. All others get an IP from my router.Ripping: EAC (free and great)
Squeezebox Server 7.7.2 - r33893 / Arch64
Squeezebox Classic, Quad 303 (where can I get new caps?) + two Quad ESL 57
Squeezebox Touch, Denon AVR 1912 (Pure Direct) + two CM8 + two CM1 + CMC

Thanks all, I have set Squeezebox Server/iMac a fixed IP address (192.168.1.100); player IP address is automatically DHCP selected.

I have problem with IP again, even I set my server (iMac) IP manually at 192.168.1.20(I have set the starting IP for all other devices from 192.168.1.100), my Squeezebox sometimes still can't detect or loss connection with the server IP during music playback. But if I connect my modem router via ethernet cable to iMac (previously via wireless), the Squeezbox is running perfectly without interruption.
My house network configuration which I did'nt mention earlier is as following:
a) ADSL2/2+ Modem Router - Linksys WAG120N
b) Intel Duo Core iMac (end 2009) with OSX 15.8 (Squeezebox Server installed in thisiMac. The iMac receive and transmit signal via modem router to Squeezbox)
May I know why there is wireless connection problem between modem router and iMac but not wired connection, and how to resolve this.
Based on Linksys WAG120N, can I set DHCP reservation for my iMac (I need to recheck if there is an option in my router setting) rather set static IP at iMac's network preference as I read from other forum, setting a static IP in iMac may have IP conflict.
Or could it be my iMac wireless (Integrated AirPort Extreme 802.11a/b/g and /n cards) problem? I never shutdown my iMac,it will go to sleep mode after long idling, even though iMac in sleep mode, it's still warm when touch, could the wireless problem due to heat from iMac?
Thanks in advance.Last edited by auronthas; 2010-03-30 at 00:26.

Appreciate if someone can provide solution to the wireless problem (between Squeezebox and iMac) as mentioned in my post above.

Sorry to hear you're still having problems. It sounds like a wireless issue doesn't it. Remember though when setting IP for your iMac and changing from Ethernet to AirPort to do your testing to set or reserve static IPs (different ones) for both adapters.
At the time when the SB loses the server check the signal strength as seen by the SB. I just realised I am assuming that the Squeezebox is connected to the router wirelessly not Ethernet. True? Do you know if there are many other WiFi access points operating near your network. Other WiFi transmitters nearby on your channel can shoot down your wireless network. It can happen more so in the evening when everyone (read schookids) get home and start using their networks and the interference increases. Change channels to try to avoid interference. Check other normal WiFi troubles such as cordless telephones and microwave ovens. What are the distances and radio signal blocks between the access point and each WiFi device? Include the number of walls and their material of construction.
I don't like dumping on other people's equipment without firm proof, though reviews of the more recent Linksys devices haven't had good things to say about wireless performance. Some reviewers query getting good wireless performance without good external antennae.
Try to locate your router as high as you can. Furniture tends to be constrained by gravity and accumulates near the floor. Placing your access point above as much furniture as possible may removes blocks from the signal path.
I have had a neighbour with a very strong WiFi transmitter that would disconnect my Squeezebox from the server. I replaced the external antenna on my router with a 10 dB high gain model. It helped marginally and has reduced the number of disconnects.
Others maybe able to advise more regarding the iMac and any specific problems with the AirPort interface or problems in OS X Leopard
Hope that helps.

Thanks for your reply, bleakcomb.
The wireless problem I have is between wireless modem router and iMac, if they are connected wired with ethernet cable, my Squeezebox can recognise/detect iMac or Squeezebox Server IP. The distance between wireless modem router and iMac is just 1 meter.
Before your post, I have changed my wireless channel to CH 8, as I can see my neighbour wireless networks are on Ch 6, 11.
I am still puzzle why the wireless icon on my iMac keep fluctuating (full bar/hidden).
Any Mac users can enlighten the problem, thanks in advance.Auronthas

Hi guys,
I was told in another forum to install Mac OSX 10.5.8 combo update on my existing Mac OSX 10.5.8 platform and yes, the update given me an Airport card firmware upgrade from Broadcom BCM 43xx 1.0 (5.10.91.19) to (5.10.91.21).
I am using wireless connection right now and my Squeezebox has no problem detecting SBS IP anymore. Just to share if you have the similar problem that I faced.
Best regards,Auronthas

The wireless problem came back yesterday.
Today, I have reset my router and setting a new SSID, change security mode to WEP from previous WPA2 Personal, the wireless between iMac and Squeezebox is working perfectly now.
Perhaps the WPA2 is too security sensitive?Auronthas
