    96/24 files and USB DAC

    Hello,

if I understand correctly SBS will down sample any 96/24 encoded file sent to any SqueezeBox box with the exception of the Touch which has a DAC that supports this kind of files natively. What would happen if I attach a 96/24 capable USB DAC to a PC running SqueezePlay, will SBS down sample or stream the file at full capacity?

    Regards,

The transporter does 24/96 too .

I think Squeezeplay does 24/96 it did in 7.3 I filed a bug when it didn't so they changed it to do so .

Desktop SP is broken for my OS and my OS is broken for handling my souncard correctly (alsa it thinks it's 16 bits ) and it's a soundblaster so it's crap anyway .

So I'm not up to speed on exactly what squeezeplay 7.4 or 7.5 does .

Then you have the next problem squeezeplay has no decent UI to select sound resources it uses the system default output, or is this improved now ?
There is many treads of disappointed sp users who finds that it uses the laptop speakers instead of the new USP external soundcard they just got ?

By all means try it out, both squeezeboxserver and squeezeplay can be downloaded and used free .

As squeezeplay for desktop is in eternal beta status and practically handed over to the community to maintain, I would be a little hesitant to build a system that hinges around squeezeplay to work. It's a nice bonus to your hardware players if it's working but that's all imho.

    Thanks Mnyb,

I have successfully ran SP on an old laptop using Arch linux and an iBasso D10 USB DAC. Problem is this DAC only runs at 16/44.1 when using the USB interface so I was thinking about buying one of them HRT Streamer+ DACs that seem capable of doing 24/96 over USB as an alternative to the Touch (which also seems to be in permanent beta). I as well as yourself prefer the HW based solution over the PC based one all day long but if SP will play nice with this DAC then I'd go with it since it's available NOW!

You may have to change Squeezeplay.pm in the server. I just checked mine and it was set to a maximum sample rate of 48000. If thats the case just change 96000. You should just have to restart SBS after making the change. With that in place squeezeplay should run at 96000 as long as there is a driver on computer that will run at that sample rate.
