Hi,
I bought a squeezebox radio a few weeks ago, and still can't get it to connect to mysqueezebox.com.
The radio works fine with Squeezebox server, but I want to be able to use it as a standalone radio and not having it rely on my computer being on.
I just want to clarify this is not a wireless encryption issue as I'm using an ethernet connection.
I tried installing SB 7.4.1, 7.4.2, 7.4.3 beta, and 7.5 on the radio, none of these versions solved the problem.
Some diagnostics:
- firmware 7.4.3 r8553 (I tried this one after trying 7.4.1, 7.4.2, 7.5)
- hardware version 5
- ethernet 100Mbps
- ip address 192.168.1.5
- mysqueezebox.com 66.150.114.155
- ping OK
- TCP port 3483 OK
- TCP port 9000 OK
- mysqueezebox.com registration [blank]
Trevor from Logitech support did his best to help me, couldn't find the cause, and thinks it it has to do with my Fios verizon action MI424-WR router. Pointed me to this bug http://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=8847 but seems unrelated (I use an ethernet connection).
I hope someone here is familiar with this router and managed to get the radio to connect to mysqueezebox.com

I just setup my new squeezebox radio with fios and your same router as you the other day. It took me a couple hours to get the ports forwarded right. Port forwarding on the MI424-WR seems unnecessarily difficult to me from any of the other routers I've used. Basically what you need to do, if you haven't already, is make sure both your software firewall (windows firewall or some other one zonealarm, outpost etc.) and your router firewall aren't blocking these ports.
* Name: Squeezebox Server Discovery - Port number: 3483 - Protocol: UDP
* Name: Squeezebox Server Control - Port number: 3483 - Protocol: TCP
* Name: Squeezebox Server Web - Port Number: 9000 - Protocol: TCP
Here's a link to a guide to open those ports in your software firewall.
http://logitech-en-amr.custhelp.com/...box%20%20Radio
and I always go to www.portforward.com when I have do port forwarding on the MI424-WR because I can never remember how to do it exactly! portforward.com doesn't have a page telling how to forward ports for squeezebox but here's a link that tells how to do the steps. http://www.portforward.com/english/r...2/Utorrent.htm
Just ignore the parts about utorrent and set up your static ip and forward the three ports I listed above to your static ip address (put it in under the "specify address" box). I also made sure those three ports were open using portforward.com's checking tool. You can get it here http://portforward.com/help/portcheck.htm or you could use a online port checker. Anyway that's what I did and it works for me. Hope that helps, make sure you log into mysqueezebox.com too.Last edited by oofda; 2010-03-03 at 21:15.

Thanks for your help!
I tried the PFPortchecker and somehow it seems that my ports are not accessible from the outside. That explains the issue probably!
I really thought I had set port forwarding up correctly (logitech support verified my port forwarding rules)
One thing I didn't do was, specify my 'public IP address'. Did that, PFPortchecker still can't access the ports (FYI, I erased the last digits of my ip address in the screenshot)
Could you perhaps post a screen shot of the port forwarding rules you set up?
It would be great getting this to work after 2 weeks!

I think your problem may be the ip address you've chosen. Pay special attention to this quote from portforward.com on their static ip guide.
"The ip address you choose should be very similar to the router's ip address. Only the last number of the ip address should be different. If the router's ip address is 192.168.1.1, I might choose 192.168.1.10. The ip address you choose should end with a number between 1 and 254, and should not be the same as the router's ip address. Every device that connects to your network needs to have it's own ip address."
That quote is from their static ip guide. It's very important that you setup a static ip address also because if your ip address is changing from being assigned by dhcp, your port forwarding rules won't always work. So if you haven't done so go here and follow the guide for your operating system. http://www.portforward.com/networking/staticip.htm
The other thing I noticed is you need to uncheck "specify public ip address" what I meant was to the right of "Networked computer/device:" you should hit the drop down arrow where you have "squeezebox" selected and select "Specify address." (Sorry if I was confusing about that part in my original post.) After that put in your new static ip address that you have chosen.
Your port forwarding rules look good to me though. So after you do the above steps check them again with PFPortChecker and hopefully they'll be open!
On more thing, I see in your original post your diagnostics say
"- mysqueezebox.com registration [blank]:"
I checked the diagnostics menu on my radio and mine says
"- mysqueezebox.com registration Registered"
So maybe make sure you've put your mysqueezebox login info into your radio if you haven't. I put mine in right when I first turned on my radio but there must be somewhere to put that info in later. I'm not sure where that is though.

Oofda, thanks for your help again.
I changed the squeezebox to a static ip address (advanced -> ip address distribution -> connection list)
so now it says:
"Squeezebox 192.168.1.3 00:05:16:47:0c:27 Static"
The rest of my network is still set to 'Dynamic'
When I look in the 'Main' section under "My network" I see:
PC Name: Squeezebox
Connection Type: Ethernet
IP Address: 192.168.1.3
Status: Active
Remote Access: Enabled
In the Edit Port Forwarding Rule I unchecked "Specify Public Address" and changed "Networked Computer / Device" From Squeezebox to 192.168.1.3
And still the ports aren't open! I'm pulling my hair out by now!
If anyone could post some screenshots of their port forwarding rules/static ip set up, I would greatly appreciate it!
The reason my Squeezebox isn't registered is because the radio can't connect to mysqueezebox.com, it doesn't ask me to put in my username/password that I created on mysqueezebox.com. Once I can get the radio to connect to mysqueezebox.com it will show as registered I'm sure. But that is exactly the problem I'm having

Oops, I missed something! in your screen shot it actually looks different from mine. It should look like this
TCP Any -> 3483
Any -> 9000
Any -> 9090
Any -> 9092
UDP
Any -> 3483
So go in and edit your rules on the router and change your "Source Ports:" from a "Single" port to "Any."
Now that I think about it though. I'm pretty sure I could connect to mysqueezebox.com through the radio before I did any port forwarding. Maybe I'm wrong.
I did my port forwarding a little different than you. I used a static ip for my computer and then opened ports in router firewall to my computer's static ip address. That way worked for me but now I changed my rules in my router to match yours so the ports are open to the squeezebox ip and that way works too but PFPortChecker shows my ports as closed now on my computer. I can still connect to mysqueezebox.com from the radio though.

Why do you enable any port forwarding from the Internet to your Squeezebox? The Squeezebox will use the ports as destination ports to connect to mysb.com in the Internet cloud and it is not necessary to enable port forwarding as long as you do not want to connect from the Internet to your local Squeezebox server.

Hi jo-wie,
I enabled port forwarding because I was told to do so by Logitech support.
And yes, I do think it's crazy that I have to mess with all this stuff, just to get this radio to work without having SqueezeBox Server running on my computer. And it still doesn't work.
So I still don't know if this is just a defective radio, a bug in the firmwares, or an issue on the mysqueezebox.com end. At this point I don't think this has anything to do with my router to be honest.

I agree that port forwarding has nothing to do with your problem. Port forwarding would come into play if you set up your Radio at another location and wanted it to connect to your server via the Internet.
The ports are being blocked going out. These would be configured in your firewall rules. I don't have FIOS, but I do have experience with the firewall in the router Verizon provides in their wireless gateway for DSL. The default "protection level" was medium, which would only allow common outbound port connections, such as for HTTP, FTP, etc. Setting it to a lower level would allow any outbound connection on any port. You can also specify a particular rule to allow a specific port.
I think you need to look at the outbound connection settings in the firewall configuration on your router.Rich

Hi, I tried setting security to Low, but that didn't help. Outbound policy is set to 'accept' on Medium as well.
I certainly don't want to accept all inbound requests by keeping the setting on 'Low'.
Also when I run diagnostics on the radio it does say OK on all the ports, see my first post. Which should indicate that the ports are not blocked.
So this remains a mystery to me.
