im running server 2008 R2 and the webgui takes a decent amount of time to initially load.
maybe 20-30seconds between hitting [enter] and the page actually displaying.
i have the same issue with utorrents' webgui also (although thats another thread!)
weirdly, if i disable the firewall, the problem fixes itself for both programs and pages load instantly.
i've let the squeezeserver handle it's own firewall rules, and it appears to be sucessfully added & enabled in the firewall panel.
in an attempt to resolve this delay on first load, i've tried removing the .exe firewall rule, and statically configure the 3 ports as per the squeezeserver control panel, however this had no fix.
it's almost like the squeezeserver exe requires a 4th port to be open, thats currently closed.
naturally it's not desired to leave the firewall off.
i've re-installed the server and also the squeezeserver software multiple times in an attempt to fix & test, but nothing has helped.
it appears to me to be an OS issue, rather than SB software - has anyone experienced this before?
edit: might be worth stating that once the webgui has loaded, then everything is fast and working perfect - the pause is only present when you initially load the page.

You may want to install firefox.
When I had a windows machine (the power supply died a year or so ago and it's way down my priority list to fix), for mysterious reasons, the 'home page' would take forever to load on ie... which is especially weird since the home page was... blank.
IE can be strange to say the least.

A slow initial loading might be misconfigured DNS somewhere on your network.

I don't see how DNS has anything to do with this.
If you are using:
http://name:9000
it might.
If you are using:
http://ipaddress:9000
DNS is not involved. (Where ipaddress is a "dotted" xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx)
P
also:
http://localhost:9000
does NOT involve DNS.

Something odd is going on. It shouldn't take that long, no matter the operating system.
Does it behave this way both when you browse from a machine on your network and from a web browser running on the server itself?
What happens if you close your browser, reopen it, then try to go to the web interface again? Is it still slow?

Regarding browsers; after hearing all the trumpets about how fast the new Firefox and Chrome browsers are I decided to play around when I were building my server last fall. At the time it was running Win7 RC and compared with the default IE8 I couldn't see any improvements at all. I guess that something in the design of SBS is to blame.
Main: Receiver (Audiocom) -> Beresford Caiman+ (Gatorized) -> Carver A-500x -> B&W 704
Office: Receiver -> Luxman L-210 -> Stax SR84 Pro
-> Beresford Caiman (Gatorized) -> Superlux HD668B
Server: A8-5500, 4 GB, SSD+ 2*1 TB, Win8 w. SBS 7.8 (SQLite w. High Mem)
Tied together by D-Link DIR-655 + DGS-1008D
