    DTS 5.1 FLACs

I recently set up a 5.1 system and had been collecting and listening to DTS 5.1 live concert recordings in FLAC format for about three weeks with great results. Today, I tried playing one of these FLAC shows and got nothing but static and no indication on my receiver that the Squeezebox was sending it a DTS signal. I then tried all of my other DTS 5.1 FLAC files and it was the same thing.

I have all of the proper equipment and have the Squeezebox connected to my receiver with an optical cable. As I said, everything worked great until today. Anybody have any idea what could have happened? I guess it's possible that the FLACs are corrupted or something, but it seems odd that every single one would be rendered unplayable out of the blue.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. I'd rather not have to re-download all of these files again, although it that's what it takes, I guess it's what I'll have to do.

Lightbulb Check your volume control is truly at 100%

At risk of being too simple, you did double check that the digital volume control is at 100%? It's best to disable it for this kind of application, but I'm wondering if you may have accidentally adjusted it at some point.

Thanks for the suggestion. Although I always keep the volume at 100%, it is possible that I or someone else may have accidentally adjusted it downward. I will check on this after work.

I didn't realize it was possible to disable volume control, but I'm going to do that as well. Thanks again.

It suggests that you no longeer have bit perfect transfer from SC to your processor. Have you turned on replay gain or any other such ajustments?

As a matter of interest are you packaging the DTS files as descibed in the wiki?

That makes sense. Is there a replay gain setting in SqueezeCenter? I've never played around with that.

I have not yet tackled the ripping of DTS audio to FLAC. These are files I'm downloading already in FLAC.

Thanks to both posters for the great responses.

Well I came home today and tried playing them again, and they worked. I have no idea why. I checked the volume and it was at 100%. I noticed that someone else posted elsewhere about this same problem. Weird.

To answer your question, I have yet to try creating my own FLACs -- I've been downloading them already in FLAC form.

Where are you downloading 5.1 DTS FLACS? I'd love to try some myself.

I got them from bt.etree.org. There are a number of DTS filesets there, although I guess they're probably only of interest if you're into that kind of music.

I also have problems with DTS encoded files.
This is with both WAV and FLAC DTS 5.1 files.
SC 7.5.x will not play them, just noise.
    SC 7.4.x will play them.

Out of curiousity, did you read this thread? Be sure you have all gain adjustment settings disabled and the volume fixed to 100%. And you need a digital S/PDIF connection from SB to home theatre amp. These facts of course apply for both 7.4 and 7.5.

This sentence says less than a list of audio equipment.
