Smile Alarm Not Working [SOLVED] at least for me...

    Hi,
I had a problem of what looked like the alarm not working... I set it, and the radio would show that the alarm was working, however no sound...

    Fix:
I had selected the Rooster Crow. I also had Fade set to YES.

    Cause:
Rooster Crow is about 3 seconds long, FADE UP time is much longer...

    Result:
Crow would start, FADE would be at minimum, sound would restart, and I believe Fade would restart as well, thus it never got to enough volume to hear.

    Correction:
Kill FADE, or select longer clip.

You must be a sound sleeper. I wake up from the slight electronic noise of the radio starting up and engaging the alarm -- even though I have it set to fade in -- and because I have it set to a talk station, sometimes there is a pause between words as the alarm goes off, so no sound for a few seconds.

I had a problem using the sound effects as an alarm on the radio. I don't remember which sound I was using, but the alarm was hit-or-miss. The alarm would not sound about 2 out of 5 days. I would get the dialog showing how to snooze or turn off the alarm, but no sound. I switched to a local file on my squeezeboxserver, and my alarm has been 100% reliable ever since. I say this as a warning about using the sound effects for an alarm sound - you're "fix" may prove to be only about 80% reliable (based on my experience). Thankfully the alarm reliability has been getting a lot of attention by developers, so it should become much more robust.

Thanks for the info... A friend mentioned this as well to me a few days ago... I will probably get some local sounds and change to them...
