You can't, it's a forum setting.

I think vB has the option to let you select this per post, but that option will be turned off. At least now all the forums are consistent, it used to be that the only the newer forums showed them, that used to annoy me.

For log files, you should encase them in [code][/code] brackets, then smilies (especially ) will not appear.

If you use Firefox, you may install AdBlock Plus. Right-click on the smilies and block each individual image.

So you get even less context to peoples posts, making misunderstandings far more likely

(Opera can do this without any additional software, just thought I would mention it )
