Why not add MusicIP in Squeezebox Server native?

    Hi,

I really love MusicIP. Now on my Mac I have problems to run the MusicIP "headless".

Now my question: Why not add to the Squeezebox Server native, without the need of MusicIP?

    Cheers

Because Logitech doesn't own MusicIP (and it seems no one is maintaining MusicIP itself any more).

They can't include code they don't own or have the rights to use.

    Oh, shit;-)

Is there an alternative Plugin like MusicIP for Squeezebox?

    > No

But you can still download and run MusicIP yourself.

Right, but short of Logitech buying or licensing the MusicIP technology (which I think would be a fine idea, but I'm not holding my breath waiting for it to happen), what else can you say other than what's been said: (1) Logitech can't incorporate software to which it doesn't have rights, (2) MusicIP is pretty much an orphaned technology, so don't expect new features unless someone adopts it, (3) the user can set up MusicIP him/herself, and (4) there is no other 3rd party available that does what MusicIP does.

@ 2) it might be orphaned but it is good as it is, i don't really need any new features. Together with Sugarcube plugin it is awesome. A real pity it does not run on the Sheevaplug. So i hope Logitech will obtain the rights to use it and incorporate it in SBS
Setup: 1 Touch, 4 Booms and 1 Radio.

I agree 100%. I only meant to convey the idea that in its current status, new features like headless support for Macs or Linux support on non-x86 hardware (like Sheevaplug) aren't likely to happen.

But once today's owner decides to no longer even have the servers required in the background to run, then it's basically dead.

The fact that it doesn't run on SheevaPlug wouldn't change with a new owner or license agreement: if the software doesn't run on that cpu, then you're lost.
