Touch plus your favorite DAC, maybe Nirvana
Now that the Touch is available, I have to say that the Touch feeding the Dodson DA-217 MK2-D Digital Processor via coax is really awesome. The Dodson is one of the top three DACs I have ever heard as well as being the only one of the three I could afford or justify buying. It sounds more neutral, nature, full bodied, and unrestrictive then DACs costing 5 and 6 times what it does. As I said, I have only heard two DACs that I think sound better then it and one can buy a nice house for what those two DACs cost.
For those looking to use Squeezebox with a DAC, IMO one can't go wrong feeding ones DAC with S/PDIF Coax from a Touch.iPhone

Engineer, not English Literature Major
No, I'm not a veil is lifted Audiophile type. Being an Engineer, I am a more of what the actual difference is or what is NOT being added by the equipment type of audiophile. All I want from my playback is for it to sound as close to what was recorded as possible, nothing added nothing removed. Proper Soundstage and a 'Live' recording are the important thing for me, nature, neutral, and alive. The meaning of 'Black' for me is only the absence of noise and by-products from my component path that those components could have added to the actual music that was recorded. IOW, a device can't make anything 'Blacker' just because somebody thinks it is better. But a better component can be 'Blacker' then another component because it adds less/no by-products or has less noise, IE cleaner, purer. So again its not 'making' it blacker, the listened to recording seems blacker because less is being 'added' in the path from source to speaker.
Must be why I like the Ayre Acoustics MX-R Mono Blocks so much, zero feedback fully balanced, clean, pure, nature, neutral. I can tell you one thing after having a KX-R at the house for 10 days, I am not a SS guy when it comes to pre-amps, but if I had $19K that didn't need to be used for anything the KX-R would be my next audio component purchase.iPhone

You can see what I use from my sig, but I've just ordered the new Musical Fidelity M1. People whose opinion I trust tell me this is a truly class beating DAC...and only £399...
You want to see the signal path BEFORE it gets onto a CD/vinyl...it ain't what you'd call minimal...

Transporter feeding a Berkeley Alpha Dac via AES3. The cable also makes a huge difference but not going to get into that on this forum (see past threads)! This gives me the source I have been searching for all my many audiophile years. It is pretty special.

Currently Peachtree Nova, but plan to move that to the bedroom and get something else for the main system. It's nice to see what others are using.
