One of the issues in that log are due to some huge artwork (>20MB?).
Is this all the scanner.log you get? No error message before it exits? What about server.log?

Some songs seem to cause the scanner to quit. Nearly all of my songs are FLAC without compression. There were a few with extraordinarily large embedded files (nearly all of my files have embedded graphics as well) that caused problems, so I reduced the file size of the embeded graphincs and that seemed to resolve the problem for those files. I thought that long file names and directory locations were causing problems, but there are other files that play well, have small embedded files, and do not have overly long names or directory locations that cause the scanner to stop.

Uninistall and re-install worked
I completely uninstalled Squeeze Server 7.4.1 and re-installed 7.4.2 WHS edition. Everything re-scanned properly, and I'm back in business!

Or are there any other possibilities ?I completely uninstalled Squeeze Server 7.4.1 and re-installed 7.4.2 WHS edition. Everything re-scanned properly, and I'm back in business!

Back in business as well. I did the same, complete uninstall and reinstall (tried 7.5 and it looks stable) and entire new scan. And deleted some files with long filenames. I deleted many entries in the registry, maybe that helped as well.
Now it seems that all is ok, lets hope this lasts for a while.
cheers

I have the same problem.
I have a QNAP TS-109 which I have run my two squeezeboxes off for a number of years without any problems. A recent hard drive failure means I have had to reinstall everything on a new hard drive. I'm using the exact same music collection as I had everything backed up. But with the new versions of squeezebox server the music scans keep terminating unexpectedly. The logs were reporting errors with WMA files so I removed them from the collection. The scans still terminate unexpectedly though and logs don't have any error messages in them anymore.
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling, and I have tried versions 7.4.1, 7.4.2-29536 and 7.5.0-29551 nothing seems to work.
This is very frustrating. Is there anywhere I can download the older servers as these all worked for me without any issues.
Thanks
Paul

So I just started to encounter this problem today for the first time. Never happened before. Squeezebox scan just kept hanging right as it got to end of iTunes library scan.
Anyway, since it was a new issue, I was thinking maybe I had a bad file that I recently downloaded that might have been causing issues.
Well, it does turn out that a track I DL'd from a music blog was coming through on iTunes with Japanese characters, which was fine for iTunes and my iPhone. But I thought maybe it was not making Squeezebox happy. Wasn't a huge fan of the track anyway
so I deleted it from my computer & library.
Ran a re-scan and everything went swimmingly.
So my advice to those having problems, backtrack to what you've added since your last successful scan and see if you can't sniff out the problem child.

can you undelete that file?
you should send it to andy and michael or upload it to a bug so they can fix the scanner to account for it.
