stuttering stream.mp3

I have (or had) succesfully set up streaming to various clients (Oxx wifi radio, Coreplayer). Out of the blue streaming stream.mp3 results in stuttering playback (connection dropped, pause in sound and skipping or loud sound spikes). The server has no high CPU load or other problems (Vista, 3GB, Athlon, gigabit connection).

Is the machine catching the stream local or over the internet? If local, I would check other running processes (Task Manager/(performance)Resource Monitor)

If over the internet, install LAME and limit the bitrate on that player/stream.

Thnaks for your tips. It's local and the server isn't very busy while streaming. Prime suspect at the moment is the wifi connection. Will try a cable connection.
Also noticed the controller is stuttering with audio playback but I learned this is something hardware related.

Problem solved. A new router and bingo!
