While listening to music recently, my Squeezebox has been displaying the message
Problem: Can't open file for:
and then the next song in the list
It is not all the time - I haven't worked out when it does this / doesn't do this. If I manually go and restart playing something it continues fine.
I'm not sure where to start looking to solve the problem and would be really grateful for any help.
Thanks

I am getting this same error. I ran the troubleshooter and it said that port 9000 was busy and suggested using port 9001 instead. I plan to try that, as soon I find out how to change the server port. I also suspect that it may some sort of DNS error, so I may try the public DNS servers instead of the one used by my ISP (Comcast). Those seem to be a little faster than the Comcast servers.

This might be the problem I (and quite a few others) have with Snow Leopard intermittently losing the local DNS. See for example
http://discussions.apple.com/thread....119&tstart=135
and
http://discussions.apple.com/thread....32856&tstart=0
I'm running my Squeezebox server on Leopard and don't see this problem, however my Snow Leopard machine is frequently losing local sites on my network. That machine was fine until I upgraded it.
Sorry if that doesn't help, but I wondered if it might be relevant?

hi thanks for all of your advice. I've tried lots of things - including reading those articles. But it's no better.
I'm still no clearer as to when it happens, ie what triggers it. It can be in the middle of an album or a playlist... I have tried various of the beta downloads but nothing has helped.
How do I go about finding out more to help someone help me??
Thanks in advance
Simon

help!
Mr. Sinatra,
My Squeezebox Server doesn't stay connected anymore. It connects for a few seconds and then stops. I'm using the 7.4.2 version. Does the 7.4.2b solve this issue? Where can I download it?
Thanks a lot in advance
best regards
André

go here:

try 7.5 embedded first. then 7.5
it may or may not fix your issue. worth a shot.

i use 7.5, both embedded and "normal" and they work fine. (go embedded if it works) i don't run them on a mac tho. still, i would use them regardless of what OS i ran them on.
just try em, very unlikely to hurt anything.
