browsing albums, order by tracknumber not in ID3-tag

    hi list.

    i'm rather new to slim-server.

now, i got most of my albums stored like /GROUP-ALBUM and the file-names
    are TRACKNUMBER-GROUP-TITLE.mp3

    i.e:

    /Nadasurf-Let Go/01-Nada Surf-Blizzard Of 77.mp3 etc.

Now my problem is that not all the MP3 have tracknumbers stored in the
ID3-tag and i don't want to edit all the ID3-tags.

When i browse by artist/album on Slim-server, tracks are ordered by
title-name alphabetically which is not the same order on the CD.

Is it possible to have them ordered by the filename's tracknumber so its
like on the CD, even if there's no tracknumber in the ID3-tag?
or DO i have to make playlists for every album to listen to the album in
the same order like on the CD?

i hope i was clear enough on that and that somebody could help me on this.

    would be nice.

I think the best long term solution would be to enter the track number
to the ID3 tags. You will not have to do it manually, if that is the
problem, as there are tools, where you can simply enter the a format
    string like:

    %C-%B/%K-%A-%T

and the app will automatically fill the id3 tags based on the
path/filename. I use id3-tagit! which is free and developed in germany,
so you can get it in German as well. It will give you instructions on
how to write the above format string, and on top of it, it allows for
recoursive directory editing, so you can do all of your collection at
    once...

Whilst you are at it, ensure the genre is the same for each track on an album, because slimserver seems to order by genre first.

Eg. if you have 5 tracks on an album, with tracks 1,2,4,5 tagged with Rock genre, and track 3 tagged as Progressive Rock, I believe track 3 will play first (as "Progressive Rock" is sorted before "Rock").
