Duet controller cuts out then goes to 'please wait'

    Hello,

Annoying problem has developed with my Duet controller. Every now and again, when in standby (left on the side etc), the controller with make a sound like it's shorted electrically/reset itself, then when i go to pick it up it states 'please wait' for ages, before displaying the home screen.

I yesterday updated Squeeze Server and the controller software to latest versions.

    I'm connecting via wireless router.

Otherwise, i like 7.4 a lot - just need this fixed.

    Cheers in advance.

    CJB.

I see that sometimes to it "cracks" in the speaker .
one other user reported this a couple of weeks ago, it is a not so obvious bug you have to be near the controller to notice .

Does yours reboot now and then ?

    Unhappy

Yep, sometimes (though rarely) it will have switched itself off. I notice the crackling quite a bit as i'm sat right next to it. It'll do it about every half an hour or so (roughly).

I thought this may be a bit of a weird one as searching on here didn't come up with much.

    Thought 7.4 would fix it.

    That's lucky then!

Any idea what the problem is? Was there a resolution in that previous post?

Not sure, because i thought it may be my router setup.

I found this though, which may be the thread you were talking about:

    http://forums.slimdevices.com/showth...highlight=wait

This suggestes it could be the suspend/hibernation of the controller that's causing the problems.

    We'll see i guess!

    Thanks for your help.

Angry Controller crackles after a few seconds

This has started this evening for me. Yesterday I installed the server software on my NAS and the controller updated itself (I've been using it all as it was out of the box before then with no problems at all). Today it has developed this fault where the controller makes the brief crackling noise mentioned and when I pick it up, appears to be coming out of a standby mode with the spinning graphic and Please Wait for ages. It doesn't just do this after half an hour, it does it every time I put the controller down and the screen goes to black so after a few seconds of inactivity.

See this thread too. When it starts happening to me, it happens frequently - just about every time I sit the Controller down, it'll happen a few seconds later. I no longer trust it, and always have to keep an IR remote nearby in case I need to do something *now*, rather than wait 50 seconds or so for the C to wake up. (I'm also trying out iPeng with a borrowed Touch, and pretty impressed so far...)

Just changing the settings under Settings / Advanced / Factory Test / Power management (either / both of Suspend Enabled or Wireless Power Save seemed to improve things for a while, but then the problem would return until I changed them back again!

The other threads cited here are the first time I've seen other descriptions of what appears to be the same problem. (So what is the difference between Suspend Enabled and Wireless Power Save anyway?)

Battery life is far less an issue for me than not being able to turn down the volume in a hurry.

I did put in a support call for this, but it was when the support response time was really bad, and after 2 weeks or more I was given 2 days to call a number in the US (where I'm not); by the time I was given a UK number instead, I was just about to go on holiday, so didn't get round to it; and when I got back, the Controller seemed to work OK for a while.

(And *why* is the forum so damn slow? I've just had to give up waiting to preview this, so can't tell whether I've got the URL syntax correct.)

The suspend enable setting keeps reverting for me too. It used to only reset when a new firmware was installed but lately it reverts every few days.
