The radio-button where you select 'install' is just a selection.
Go one menu up, there will be an install-button (saying '1/x selected'), when you press it it will say 'Downloading' and your controller will restart.
On the new Firmware the 'Extras' menu isn't showing by default, so you might have to go under 'Settings->Home Menu' to make it visible. I'll update my installation manual to reflect the changes.

Don't you just hate it when you miss something that seems obvious once it's explained! All sorted, and it appeared on my home menu automatically.
Now, if we could just fix the stuttering playback then being able to select the headphone socket will become worthwhile again! Thanks

Switching back to 7.3.3 from 7.4
I installed 7.4 this morning, and for all the reasons mentioned in this thread (headphone issues, and I don't like the graphics ), I want to switch back to 7.3.3. I re-installed this on my PC, and expected that the controller would switch its firmware back to the previous version (I can't remember the number). Alas, the controller did not switch back. It continues to run 7790. I still have the new graphics, and the headphones stutter. Can someone tell me how I can switch back to the previous firmware, and what the number was? I am not very computer savvy. Thanks in advance for your help.

Confirm that your 7.3.3 squeezebox server automatically downgraded the squeezebox firmware before proceeding ("settings > "information"). It should happen automatically.
Then, reset the controller to Factory Settings (SC: settings > advanced > Restore factory settings (or something like that)). The SC will reboot.
You may have to reboot the SC again to make the factory setting stick. The SC may then also automatically prompt another update after that reboot - not to 7.4.0, but to the second firmware release for the 7.3 series.
I was able to do it his way when I rolled back everything from a 7.4.x beta release to 7.3.3.

Option 1 is to try forcing the SBC to switch back by making sure it is connected to your SC 7.3.3 server (not SN) and then trying Settings > Advanced > Software update.
If that doesn't work, try Option 2. Go to http://update.slimdevices.com/update/firmware/7.3.3/ and download the SBC firmware for 7.3.3, which is r6038 (the filename is jive_7.3_r6038.bin). Then follow the instructions in the wiki for manually installing the firmware via SecureDigital memory card (http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.ph...te_via_SD_Card).

Thank you
Thank you to both Aubuti and Slim Pickens for your advice. I think my problem was that when I re-installed 7.3.3, some portions of 7.4 remained. I completely uninstalled both 7.4 and 7.3.3, then re-installed 7.3.3, and then the controller did reset to 6038. It always amazes me how helpful people are on this forum, and how passionate about these products. I for one do love my duet.

Problem solved by firmware update?
Over in the bug section, LogiTech believes that they may've solved the stuttering problem via a firmware update. See: Comment # 24 at
https://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=11283
I'm somewhat new to this. But, is installing a firmware update for the Controller a different process than simply downloading the latest beta of SC 7.4? Thanks.

it's getting better
Playback on controller is very much improved using 7.4.1 r28676, with controller firmware 7.4.1-r7816. Stuttered a couple of times per track at first, but seems to have settled down, no stuttering at all on last three tracks.

Just downloaded this version but my 'Extras'-menu seems to be gone ?
So I can't access my Headphone-Switcher-Applet ?
No, just download the 7.4 Nightly Beta (http://downloads.slimdevices.com/nightly/?ver=7.4) for your server, your Controller will then ask, if it should update the Firmware to a newer version. But, is installing a firmware update for the Controller a different process than simply downloading the latest beta of SC 7.4?
You can always revert by installing the official '7.4.0' version, your firmware will then be downgraded again.
Please note that this is beta and there can be all sorts of funny (and annoying) stuff going on (see above)
... 7.4 should be very safe though most of the time as develepors should only fix bugs on this version.
